Farrell has the last word on the Reddick-Bailey trade

    Wow.

Farrell announced that Hanrahan is the closer and Bailey is the set up man, thereby ending the long-standing argument about whether trading Reddick for Bailey was a bad deal.

Farrell just said "yes" it was a bad deal.

He's not even interested in giving Bailey achance to win the closer job - he already knows that Bailey is not up to that job.

The Sox gave up an All Star, Gold Glove 25 year old OF who mashed HRs all season for a set up guy.  Not "THE" set up guy - just one of many set up guys.

    Case closed.

Re: Farrell has the last word on the Reddick-Bailey trade

In the second half of last year, Reddick had:

a .215 BA, .256 OBP, 12 HR (as opposed to 20 in the first half), .391 slg.

In sept/Oct he hit .167.  By year end, he was hitting eigth in the As lineup.

Reddick would be a platoon player on the 2013 RS.  Lets please stop acting like he was a monumental loss.

It does look like a bad trade at this point.  Reddick did have a pretty bad second half, mind you, hitting 225/271/405.  He ended up with a 242 BA compared to 280 in 2011.  Case not totally closed yet.  Bailey is a young man and has had some very good seasons.

Edit: my second-half numbers differ from Drewski's because his are the Baseball-Reference second-half figures which are actually post-All Star break.

In a crowded outfield of Cespedes, Chris Young, Crisp, Seth Smith....Reddick may not even start.

Reddick is a platoon player.  If he wasnt , the As would not have brought in Chris Young.  Case not even close to closed.

Isn't ADG our resident batting average guy?  I wonder what his thoughts are on .225....and heavier-than-air flying machines......

I still don't like Reddick. There are lots of reasons not to. But anyway, sure bad trade you win. Yay.

    Glad that's over with.

Couldn't find anything that supports what the OP said. OP seems to be 100% BS. No need to argue with Shumpeter since he is BSing and does not back up his BS with any quotes or facts. No need for this thread to continue without supporting facts.

Thanks Bill.  Regarding Softy and Moon: I suspect that they have more respect for one another than either will ever admit.
