"They know what they're doing, what's best for my development and my career,"   -- Jose Iglesias This young man does not deserve prevaricating Cherry! Iglesias is never going to be more than a career average weak overall plate profile

The kid turns 23 in January, have you really given up on him offensively?  Ozzie Smith entered the majors at 23 and never hit more than 258 until he was 30 years old.  During that stretch his career average was around 236.  Iggy has plenty of time to develop a bat and my guess is you're right we may need his defense at some point this season.

I haven't "given up on his offense". The guy, with experience, will improve his plate work over time, but will overall career be a weak hitter. And so what! When you field like he does at the most important fielding positing in baseball, I'd start a black hole offensive player if he constantly took away hits and doubled off people to kill rallies and save mileage on the pitching staff!!!!!!!!!!!

I hear you but lets not forget he is still a kid and may make a plays that hurt as much as help.  Together with a weak bat I'm still willing to give him a bit more time at AAA, or at least use him as a defensive specialist/pinch runner in late innings to see how he holds up.

A couple more months of AAA as "time to get a player ready who isn't ready" is a drunken fantasy!

22 years old isn't young for a player who has been playing professional baseball for years. Get out a here.

North Carolina has what I call the "we're young and need experience" basketball excuse makers. Youth is both an asset and a very short lived liability as soon as the youth gets initiated in the first group of contested competitive games.

It's not about youth, it's about talent and fit.

We have a lot of question marks with our offense that may keep Iggy in a lessor role for a bit longer.  If they work out well it may be different.

... Will Youk ever be Youk again?
... Will either of our two "low hitting" catchers give us some decent offense?
... Will Ross and company work out as we hope?
    ... Will Crawford hit?

I think Lav has a better chance at catching than Iggy does taking Aviles out of the offense right now but lets see how it works out.

Get back with me when your delusional perception of "offensive talent" Aviles has popped like a bubble. Aviles is no offensive answer to any team's offensive needs.

Maybe they want to give Aviles the chance to perform so that he will be worth something in the trade market when they do bring Iggy up early this year.

    That is plain cruel!

Red Sox rookie Jose Iglesias leaves the clubhouse wearing a rookie hazing costume after the second game of a baseball double-header against the New York Yankees, Sunday, Sept. 25, 2011, at Yankee Stadium in New York.

First of all you have no credibility. Your whiff on Ellsbury excludes you from  commenting on anything baseball or Sox. Your angle is so predictable. You need a scapegoat. Tek and Wake retired, Lowrie is in Houston and Ellsbury......well youre an id!ot for ever bringing his name up again. Aviles is the chosen one for your bashing. I am suddenly hoping he plays well for more reasons than the obvious. I likie Iggy and so does the brass and his day will come. Meanwhile Aviles will do fine and make himself a nice trade chip if needed. So do many a favor and SHUTUP.

Some people think they are more astute at managing a baseball team than the people who have years of experience and get paid to do so...I think this statement can apply very much toward the OP of this topic.

With that said, I personally agree with the decision made on Iglesias to send him back to AAA. There is plenty of time for the kid to build a major league career if he can prove to management he can hit above the Mendoza line.

Lavarnway would seem to be closer to being major league ready and his being on the team will depend on how much Valentine wants hitting over defense in the backup catcher role. This one should be a more interesting decision by the new management team!

Ellsbury 2010 was a complete whiff, and can't be excluded from 2011 room service pitch batting order spot in front of a healthy Pedroia and true superstar AGon.

Your comment is always the same, as you are droning bootlicker in a thundering mob of mental midgets.

Are Pedroia and AGon going anywhere while Ells is under team control?

No. Is Crawford going anwhere while Ellsbury gets paid on FA time clock to sign with another team at a cost of 30 million a year? No!

If the presences of Pedroia and AGon is what caused Ells to see more fastballs last year, which resulted in his improved numbers, then there shouldn't be much of a change over the next 2 years.  If you walk Ells, he steals 2nd, if you pitch to him, he takes you deep.  Seems like a good problem for the Sox to have.

Crawford certainly isn't going anywhere, but he isn't preventing the Sox from signing Ells either.  You complain about penny pinching, but it's that same penny pinching that could allow the Sox to lock up Ells long term if they want to go that direction.  Personally, I still think that he has to show that last year wasn't a fluke before signing a long term team.

Your argument of giving credit to those around Ellsbury is bullcrap. Evey player who has ever had a great season had good players around them. You simply havent been able to explain the fact that you wanted Cameron over Ellsbury. The fact that you said it and dont have enough sack to admit it tells me all I need to know about you. You have the nerve to accuse someone of having the same old comments. That is truly laughable coming from you. Are your parents mad that you cant use thier sig pic anymore? Why? The sack thing again Softybrain.

Can't buy an unproven thesis--that iglesias will stay in Pawtucket until June or so. I would love to see him start in Boston, but believe the sox are trying to give him more time to become a decent hitter. Fwiw, last year the sox had three very good hitters who also won gold gloves. Right now, aviles is a reasonable choice, as is Iglesias. Also fwiw, they have invested $10 M in Iggy, so I'm notnseeing the charge of excessive bean counting. FO is not guilty in this case.

Sure he does, unless you are as incomptent as InEsptein. Why on earth would the Red Sox pinch pennies and pay Ellsbury and Crawford 40 million a year?

The Red Sox will not have Ellsbury beyond FA, a good thing that will be caused by a decision made by InEpstein in what amounts to ironic poetic justice.

Evey player who has ever had a great season had good players around them.

False, but many a player has been exposed after heading to San Diego or other weak lineup.

Ellsbury took the entire year of 2010 off in what was beyond dubious circumstances. Your 2011 "he's come of age as superstar" is a wet dream. As for Cameron, I was oppsed to a 2 year offer to Cameron due to age, but Cameron should not have been parked on the bench in 2011 behind a terrible Crawford and aging out Drew. In fact, had Cameron been parked v. LP at leadoff in front of Pedroia and AGon, I venture to say his numbers would likely have been career high and some stupid GM like InEpstein would have taken those number (Lugo, Jenks et al) and offered Cameron a 2012 contract as an aged out old man.

Pitching will change the approach to Ellsbury in 2012, pitching him outer half and positioning the infield several steps and over shaded towards the LF line in such a way that they force him to drive the ball the other way deep. They thought they could increase the steady diet of inner half room service and set up what was 2011 Ellsbury, which credit should go to the much more gifted and talented AGon and Pedroia.

With Crawford, Ellsbury will soon be out the door regardless of what the GM pipe dreams about. If he ends up in a place like San Diego, the reason why AGon is a true superstar and Ellsbury is a pretender will be manifest.
