Would you rather see Brentz and Bradley than Victorino and Gomes? Bogaerts instead of Drew?

If Brentz, Bradley, and Bogaerts were major league ready, I'd love nothing more. But Brentz has played all of 5 games in AAA and struggled. The other two haven't played a game above AA. I can't wait to see these guys and the others at Fenway, but in all likelihood they need more seasoning in the minors first. I'm pretty sure the team knows their prospects and their readiness better than anyone here.

For years the BDC whine brigade has been telling us how much the team and the fans overrate our prospects...and now, suddenly, people are upset because we're not fielding an entire team of minor leaguers. Unbelievable.

    [/QUOTE]

I think signing Gomes to 2 yrs. is the time that the prospects mention above will be MLB ready. The Victorino deal is the just in case factor, that Ellsbury will be gone by season's end. Within 2 years time we may see one the above prospects being a FT OF'er.

The 2013 Sox look neither cheap nor smart. But they still look like the worst team in the American League East.

Time to get going on the slogans.

How about, “We can’t win, but we can still spin?’’Dan Shaughnessy   Some Red Sox people do know baseball.

A peice of paper is impressive, but players need to gel as team to go far into the p[ost season. If we take a look at the the Sox team that won 2 world series that was real team and most recent look at the Giants that won 2 WS another great team. Big name signings will not guarantee a championship bit will catch the fans attention.

This team isn't a bad team if it stays healthy and the pitching performs up to capability.

We've been saying this for 6 years, but with better teams on paper at this point in the year.

    I don't see it happening.

SP, in the AL, is always a roll of the dice. These guys pitch every 5 days and suffer from high miles and confidence issues that ebb and flow. There are only a few SP in the entire AL who are worthy of high dollar multi-year contracts. The GM's who don't understand that are incompetent.

It doesn't cost top dollar to roll the SP dice.

It's embarrassing for the Red Sox to spend around 150 million and be considered a likely 2nd rate team results product. However, every season has surprises for a reason and the Red Sox most certainly will be, worst case, a bubble WC playoff contender that may or may not get in. Probability is 40/60 with the status quo, as to a WC slot.

I'd be a little more excited with Swish in RF and ShaVic in CF. This means exiting Ells for  some prospects or a starting pitcher like Holland.

If Nap signs great if not sign Swish to play RF and trade for Kendrys. Two of these three guys would improve us offensively.

everyone is excited to watch a new season starts...something about hope/spring right? but we do have a tough division...take that away and with some health and luck, we could be in the wild card situation....but honestly, i am hoping for .500

`im still not feeling the Orioles success yet...that could be one plus...in reality -

that would be 12 games better than last year and moving in the right direction....as long as middlebrooks, iggy, and lava get to play a lot....dont want to see drew, ross and gomes 2/3 days....

I really don't understand how fans don't like the signing of a healthy 29 year old shortstop with all star talent who will be playing for a contract, especially when they don't have another guy on the 40 man roster who has ever been a starting shortstop in the Major Leagues...

Agreed.  What's also humorous here is all the people talking about Drew and Gomes like they are a couple of useless bums with nothing on their resumes, and totally ignoring the fact that they contributed significantly to the A's stretch run last year.

you would rather have these two salamis at 15 million a year than sanchez? they better be on the bench most of the year...they are average hacks who are vastly overpaid based on their career performance...they are lemons...

"Salamis!"  That's wicked funny! You must be Italian...I know that facts aren't your thing, but are you aware that Sanchez turned down more money to re-sign with Detroit, because as a free agent, he actually gets to choose what team he wants to pitch for?  Keep telling yourself that Greinke and Sanchez were options though, it'll just help you continue to wallow in your own misery...

I can play at this too.  Watch...

Sanchez was 9-13 last year with a 3.86 ERA.  Hmm, that ain't so great.

Hey, he's only won 48 games in his entire career!

    80 million for that?

Are you out of your freakin' mind???!!!

The number you are failing to take into account, that Georom knows is the most important number: 2.  Sanchez was the #2 ranked free agent pitcher this year.  So, that makes him worth it doesn't it?

hate to break it to you, but you might want to bone up on your accounting.  2/26 is a far cry from 5/80.  Not at all the same money.  What about the 3 years beyond these next two?  They don't matter?
