What kind of person who claims to go to a prayer group would write what you have about this woman?
I've never claimed to go to a prayer group. I've never said the bimbo offered sexual favors.
The reason why you don't see older fat women on the sidelines is because the job is sexual attractive appearance required. Watney was hired for sex appeal ratings. Fact. She will be replaced with the next young woman sex sale.
Your superficial comments about Christianity qualifications is pejorative and driven by your animosity.
Those who pontificate with an icon of a young female bump is a quite pathetic hypocrite.

Well that is true... those not willing to flaunt cleavage need not apply.
Now try to blame men for this... it is always the mans fault that a woman feels the need to show herself off.

"Watney has competed in the Miss California pageant, where she was the first runner-up in 2002. She was a National Merit Scholar and attended the University of San Diego on an academic scholarship, where she graduated with honors in 2003."
Heidi Watney is a beautiful, intelligent woman. Anyone who calls her otherwise is revealing his own prejudices.

"Hot chicks are a dime a dozen"?????????????
To who? George Clooney? Brad Pitt? Derek Jeter?
Do you go out of your house and look around?
Really beautiful women are rare, except in Hollywood, which has its pick of the crop.
Dime a dozen? Wow! I must be living in a different universe.

I'd be curious to hear from some women about this, as I suspect that Heidi was just as much about drawing interest from a female audience as she was from the men, but of course not in the same way. Many of the male viewers were already watching the game anyway for the game's sake. But the guy's wife or girlfriend could be in the room, not really paying much attention to the game until Heidi comes on. A reaction from the woman might range anywhere from catty, to playful response and/or amusement of her guy's reaction, to admiration of Heidi's wardrobe, hair, makeup, and fashion. I imagine that some woman want to check out what Heidi is wearing that night. It might be the same reason why beauty pageant audiences consist mainly of women.

Absurd. If men are just tuning into the game anyway, one would see older women so the women would tune in to see what they were wearing.
Is PC mental gymnastics a sideline for you..........................

WOW!!!!
Hank, aka Softy, Law, et al. HAS SO MANY ISSUES IT'S TRULY FRIGHTENING!
I hope this guy is as lonely as I suspect he is, because the alternative is that he is making REAL people, in his REAL world (if that exists???) extremely miserable! My guess would also be, that he actually scares them! This is not your average, run of the mill nut job!!! This guy has some serious mental health issues!
If you want to see the depths of Hank's hatred, check out how he used the story of the dozens of poor young boys raped by the evil pedophile at Penn State, as a foil for his twisted internet games. Using these poor boys to tweak his favorite 'demons!!!!'
Just a thought....... Don't ever let this guy have any of your personal information! I fear his problems go far beyond simply 'having issues.'

Well I won't argue degrees with your statement. Certainly it would be easy to find a number of female viewers who "love Heidi" but interestingly enough I bet some simply don't like her because they know the real reason she is on television - some would be jealous of course. Others would be amused as you say at their husbands reactions, especially when he pretends he is not ogling Heidi.
I believe though she is there for one thing and one thing only, to appeal to men.

Somebody mentioned Phyllis George. The attractive sideline reporter has been a fixture in sports for a long time. Using people's looks as a factor in hiring them ain't nothin' new.

Heidi Watney is a San Diego State party school girl who was hired to sell sex to a male audience, not for her intelligence. Anyone who makes an obligatory politically correct comment about a young woman is a shallow minded drone who is affraid to speak the truth in the face of American fascist class identity politics. Where is your evidence that she partied at San Diego State? She attended the college on an academic scholarship. I don’t read the gossip columns for my information. I stick to the facts. I’m really not sure what “American fascist class identity politics” is or what is has to do with the evidence that clearly backs up my statement on the lovely Miss Watney. My comment was not politically correct, it was factual. Yours was an opinion with no supporting evidence.
Anyone who repeats PC federal policy drone talk is revealing his own status quo prejudices. I wasn’t aware that federal policy influenced anyone’s comments on Red Sox sideline reporters.
Repeat after me, Devildrivel, Heidi was hired to sell sex appeal to a male audience. She wil be replaced by another bimbo. Young women are commercially used to sell sex. No need to use the PC garbage. Then please explain to me how Eric Frede once held that job. He certainly could not be labeled a bimbo. Or for that matter, explain Ken Rosenthal or Craig Sager. Well, I guess Sager’s colorful suits could attract a certain audience. Heidi was not hired to sell “sex appeal”. Heidi has sex appeal which is pleasing to a male audience. She is not selling sex. She is selling a baseball game, but more importantly, is helping the advertisers to sell more products. The male audience also likes booze and auto commercials. That is the American way. Sports have always been used to sell products from cigarettes to booze to automobiles. All the things that are good for young, red-blooded American boys.
Daviddrone, I would like for you to protest the discrimination in NESN sideline reporter hiring of all the qualified intelligent older women with flat chests and gray hair. The ones who are not beautiful to you, develdrivel drone. NESN can use any qualifications it wants for its sideline reporters. Being a visual medium, it is not surprising that physical appearance is considered. NESN is attempting to market its product toward its target audience.
No one is stopping you from looking at intelligent older women with flat chests and gray hair. If that is what you enjoy, you are free to pursue that.

Is this selling sex? This is "apperance", after all. And why are you prejudiced against postal inspectors? Don't you appreciate those who guard us against criminal use of U.S. mail service?

As a woman I watch the game to enjoy baseball, not to look at Heidi's makeup etc. I always thought of her as a distraction.
Why is it that woman can enjoy the game without amazingly handsome male commentators while some men get caught up with how beautiful some female commentators are?
These gals may be very intelligent and deserving of the job but there must be plain or chubby women out there who could do the job just as well or better. Why arn't any of those women hired?
Personally I think eye candy commentators diminishes the game. Do they think people won't watch if there isn't a beautiful woman to look at? Do they think the game isn't good enough to hold men's attention.
I happen to have a higher opinion of men. Somehow my dad followed the Sox for 60 years without eye candy commentators or a WS!

Good post. One counterpoint I would offer: it's pretty well known that looks are a major factor in why some
male news personalities have their jobs. The movie Broadcast News had some good commentary about this.
