[QUOTE]In Response to Re: Francona Letting Beckett Bat in 6th Down 3-0 : Right, the Sox lost because the manager quit.  It couldn't have anything to do with Lee being in one of the best stretches of his career-32 scoreless innings-or Beckett having an off-night.

Of course it had something to do with Lee. He's an absolute stud. I just wonder if there would be any difference in him pitching to 5  DMAcs and 4 Camerons or 5 Reddicks and 4 Drews?? What think you?? I think the "Factor" happend when the lineups were filled out. Can you imagine what the Philly team thought when they saw Mac and Cam in the lineup? I wonder what the rest of the Sox thought when they saw the lineup. It has to have a negative affect on a player when he realizes that the best available players are not in the lineup. He quit before the game even began.

saying the game is over in the sixth with one on and no outs and down 5-0 is unacceptable and unamerican.

The score was 3-0 in the top of the 6th so your comment has nothing to do with this situation.

at 3-0, it is even more unacceptable and unamerican to "save the bullpen". thanks for the correction and making my point stronger

Just Francoma "forfeiting" another game because he "knows" we can't win. Man am I sick of this guy!

It was not a white flag lineup.  He loaded it with righty hitters and two of them delivered--Scutaro and McDonald (with a double).  Ellsbury and even AGon went hitless, but so did Pedroia and Youkilis.  When those four go hitless, it's going to be a long night.  Pinch-hitting for Beckett in the 6th wasn't going to change that, and he needed the work so that next time out he'll be back to his old self (before the flu bug hit he was having a career year).

Right now Lee is the best pitcher in MLB and it isn't even close.  In the month of June he has started five games, averaged around 8 innings per game, and given up a total of 1 run.  And you two continue to ignore that simple fact and insist that, with the right managerial moves, this game was salvageable.

And why do you take that absurd position?  Because you have made it clear that Francona should win every single game and that all losses are his fault and his alone.

there was a guy named eckersley. pitched for boston. late in his career as a starter, you couldn't touch this guy in the first 5 innings. after that............... well, he became a hall of fame pitcher as a reliever. cliff lee is a long way from the hall of fame. one swing and it's 3-2. you are the king of absurd.

    1. 3-0 with Cliff Lee on the mound right now is close to insurmountable.

    2. Beckett was not pitching a bad game and was arguably as good as anyone that could have been brought in, plus he NEEDED THE WORK for his next start.

    3. The Sox bullpen needed some rest as we can expect heavy work for the Lackey start.

That's why Francona is a better manager than these armchair losers, because he doesn't throw it all into one game like it's game 7 of the World Series when IT'S NOT. There's a game to be played shortly and you want to win that one also. Not to mention there wasn't a clear better option for winning that game by pulling Beckett. You guys really need to grow up, it's not about stopping the criticism but it's about developing a more nuanced view than "Francona is clueless even though we won two World Series rings on his watch"

all this bizzare rationalization for francoma giving up in the 6th inning is interesting. does RSN stand for red sox neurosis?
