[QUOTE]Yes, I said sign Victorino if they trade Ellesbury. The guy's a winner, and a damned good player. So what? You're not going to spend 22 million a year on him. We were sold on Gonzalez, as a 40-50 homer guy, if he played in Boston. How many times did we hear, "He plays in Petco, and has a left field stroke, and would be deadly in Fenway." The reason we weren't enthralled was, 18 HRs in 2 years at Fenway, and hardly any big late inning hits. Plus, he had all the charisma of a meatloaf. Familiarity often breeds contempt. Or, the grass is always greener in the other fellow's yard.

So naturally, the last guy didn't work out. Nor the guy befoe him (Crawford). Nor, well, quite a few of them in the last few years. And you think the Sox need to get right back out there pimpin free agent dollars into their readily inflatable payroll?
Bad, bad idea.
3 years from now, you'll have the same situation.
And Shane Victorino, if you did not notice, has fallen off the planet this year at the plate. And, outside of a 3 year stretch that ended in 2011, has never been anything special at the plate. I have no idea why you think he is a "winner," but I'm sure there are about 200 or 300 other MLB players who could meet that criteria.
Oh, and he is also the last player the Sox need. They have a CF, and the Flyin Hawaiian is a waste in a corner OF spot.
You might be a huge Victorino fan. Thst's OK. I get that. But he is not a good idea, and the Sox are probably better off avoiding long term deals right now, especially with the horrific free agent class coming up...
