I hate pitch counts too. Now we're stuck with Scott Atchison, and if by some chance he does well, he'll get pulled after an inning because of pitch counts. I'd like to see a manager who keeps pitchers in the game for as long as they're effective, period. These guys are babied too much.

Well it might have been a good idea to leave Padilla in for the 9th yesterday, but Felix was at a career high in pitch count there. It was right to get him out of there on a high note.

OK, he did. I wouldn't have pulled him either.
In Response to Re: Game 4 thread: Red Sox at Blue Jays : Come on, he's a starting pitcher. He has to have at least 120 pitches in him.
    Posted by carnie
He has never done it before. Have to break him in slowly. He can up to 120 in time.

Well, thankfully Farrell brought in the soft tossing leftie for Papi.

Ross had a good spring training , but he has come out of the gate very slowly.

Can't fault Papi there. He was trying to make something happen.

David, you should never try to steal. I don't care how much weight you lost this winter.

I don't fault Ortiz either. Most teams don't expect him to hit to the leftside, nor do they expect him to attempt a stolen base. If he occassionally hits to the left and runs on the basepaths, he'll alter defensive alignments in a way that could help the team as a whole. I want everyone running when the opportunity strikes. It was a very close play at second.

    Posted by davidap
I'm all for him hitting against the shift, as a matter of fact when he started doing that last year it brought his BA up about 30 points. He's too slow for anyone to worry about on the basepaths though.

Very nice job by Atchison. Should he come back for the 8th? I say yes, Valentine will probably opt for Thomas.

I have David Ortiz starting in my fantasy league, which has net stolen bases as a category.

    Ouch.

I also started Henderson Alvarez in the league with quality starts, ERA, WHIP and K as a categories (and went with Kevin Youkilis over Jason Kipnis).

Saltalamacchia strikes out. What a surprise. Aviles promptly follows with an infield groundout to first. Lovely.

Great catch on a hot liner at first to rob Ellsbury of at least a double. Nicely done, Toronto.
