That was the most dominant performance against the Sox this year...IMHO. Workman pitched pretty good also...gave up one run in the first and the other run was a gift...Zobrist was out at first. You can't win a game if you can't score and the Sox were handcuffed by Moore...just have to tip your cap to the Rays today and beat them tomorrow. Good news about Buchholz today ...that's a big relief to know he will be back and in the meantime it looks like Workman can hold his own.

    Yup.

Workman settled down after a shaky start and did well.

    Unfortunately, Moore was much better.

To date I'd say this is the biggest game of Workmans career.  Definitely going to be a test for the young starter.  Hopefully he can rise to the challenge.

Why wouldn't it be? He came in relief in his first game, this is only his third game, and it's against the Rays.

exactly It was against a hot team that has a chance to take us out of first.

Not much to say except where is the offense when this kid pitches? Cripes they score a ton of runs when Dumpster pitches and in the two starts by Workman they've scored a whopping 2 runs! Message to Farrell stop putting him out their against the oppositions top gun! Let Dumpster take those slots and maybe just maybe he will remember how to pitch!

Re: Game Thread 101: Rays at Red Sox

Good start by Workman, I was worried that he might falter against a better lineup and in pressure.  But I guess the kid has something in him.  If he pitches like that every 5 days he's going to win some ballgames.  Unfortunately however he may be destined for the bullpen for the playoff run (which actually might be a really good thing)  We could move Dempster to the bullpen because he has showed that flexibility before but Workman has never thrown more than 138 innings in a season and is at 115 now so he might get tired come season end if he continues to be stretched out as a starter.

For someone whose stuff is supposedly best suited for the bullpen and may be tiring soon it makes sense.  However with how good he's been pitching it also makes sense to keep him in the rotation until Bucc gets back.  But if that is his place, then it would be really helpful to know if he can be consisten out of the pen BEFORE July 31st
