Meanwhile the offense looks like it may be going into a funk... Napoli is certainly in a prolonged slump....

Questionable decision to start Wright and use Workman in the pen.  These knuckleballers can drive you crazy.

Just a while ago posted likewise in another thread... Incredible!... How about napoli hitting again behind Papi and boom a double play...

A slump? You r very noble, the strikeout-DP machine does not deserve such a distingtion, Ted Williams used to have slumps now and then...

I really like Naps!  & he is a HUGE reason the Sox got off to such a good start this year.  We were all wishing we had signed him to the 3 yr deal within the first 40 games.  The guy was on fire.

Having said that, He's become a SO / DP machine, & is killing us behind Papi!  Time to make a change!

A long road back in this game. All they can do is try to hold Houston from scoring more , and keep chipping away at the lead.  A long way to go.

My question is why did Farrell not start Brandon Workman tonight. He has pitched great instead of screwing around with a knuckleballer and a catcher who looks lost in catching him. People this is Houston, one of the worst teams in the league and we need these games. These are the teams that you have to sweep, not lose against. There are probably more fans there tonight then fans of the Astros.

On another note, none of our 3rd baseman can hit and Napoli, who I know is streaky is killing us at this point.

Nothing wrong with venting when things aren't going right. That is what gamethreads are for.  Let it out. Get it off of your chest. If that doesn't work then put on your wife-beater T-shirt and abuse her, kick your dog, or throw your glass bottles against a wall. All of these things are therapy.

The other thing about gamethread conduct is to never cheerlead, compliment a player, coach, manager, GM, or owner. Such behavior is childish, boring, inappropriate for a gamethread.  Gamethreads are for criticism, for those who think that they are better scouts, managers, GMs, and owners.

This is a fiasco .... 4 passed balls by lavarnway? I am assuming he has caught Wright before?  What was Farrell thinking??

What in the hell do they see in Ryan Lavarnway? He can't hit, defensively he is a liability and he can't throw anybody out at second base. I wonder what the team record is when he is behind the plate. There MUST be someone else in the system that is better than him - I guess we know what the priority will be this off-season; since David Ross looks to be one concussion away from being retired........

I was actually flashing back to the Wakefield days in that first inning when you had to carry a weak hitting catcher like Bard and Mirabella to catch the dam thing.

He's never been the same, since he was out for a few, 3 days, with dizziness. He never seemed to recover. He was a doubles machine, before that

Can you think of anything positive that came out of that first inning when Workman could have started the game. We need these games with Tampa breathing diwn our backs. The Astros are usually eliminated from the race by about the 11th game of the season. Our third baseman cannot flat out hit. Napoli is reverting back to the .221 hitter he was last year in Texas. Sorry that you do not like the criticism but I think it is on target.

JBay the FO thought that Middlebrooks was going to build on what he did last year and they were wrong. Now we have defensive third basemen who cannot hit a lick, they remind me last year of Brett Lillibridge. The team pitching has held its own but their hitting has killed them in games like last night, as Lavarnway stikes out and our third baseman (Brock) cannot hit a ball out of the infield for the 2nd time.
