Only 4 runs down, it's doable. But with the Yank's pen, not likely either.

No doubt upper. Thats how he's made his money and why he bought the team. A friend told him it was a good investment. He hired LL for baseball operations and Werner for the entertainment side. Worked well so far until this past off season. LL hired Valentine because theyre friends and it was his last chance to get back into managing in MLB.
In Response to Re: Game Thread 13: Yankees at Red Sox -100th Anniversay Game************************* : Problem is, they have little to sell.  Agon & Pedey are going nowhere and shouldn't.  C, RF & SS won't bring much, LF we couldn't give away due to his contract.  That leaves Youk, Ortiz and Ells.  Won't get much for the 1st two, and Ells, while great, is no longer a bargain and by July will have 8 months of baseball left before FA.
    Posted by Chilliwings
Yeah. That sounds pretty dire. There might be some market for guys like Youk , Beckett, Buchholz and Aviles. Crawford cannot be dealt without eating most of his contract.  I don't know. It is a bad situation. But at some point , you have to make room for the kids like Iglesias , Middlebrooks, Lavarnway and maybe a couple of others.

J, It is clear that you don't like Valentine , but let's be fair , none of this is his fault.

I've always thought that it's pure arrogance for an umpire to refuse the batters request to appeal to 1st/3rd base ump on a check swing. The other ump 99% of the time will back up the home ump anyhow. What's the deal?

They should sell the team. They will wait until off season when Youkillis, Ortiz, Matsusaka, Jenks, Ross are gone when about 53 million dollars in payroll is gone. This team has declined since the end of the 2008 season when all they needed was anothet hitter. Instead they played hard ball with Teixeira and Boras picked up and threwmoney at garbage in 2009 like Penny, Smoltz, Baldelli, Saito, then in 2010 in Cameron, Lackey. In 2010 the cry was pitching and defense which we did not have. Mr.Henry just sell the team please. Maybe the Sox should seriously consider looking to Pawtucket now...they don't have much to lose and everything to gain.

It's time to face it--this team is just not good.  Starting pitching, bullpen, hitting,bench--they all are bad.  I don't think time will solve this problem.  It is ashame we had to play a game on the day we honored this beautiful and honorable park.  How about after this game, the Sox play a pick-up game with the old-timers in attendance and the winner finish the season?

Tazawa could be a good one. Decent fastball, good curve and he throws strikes.

JBay naybe you are right. This is the Yankees last hurah this year, cause they are old with Jeter, ARod, Rivera, Swisher. Maybe we should just bring up the kids and see what they have this year. esponse to "Re: Game Thread 13: Yankees at Red Sox -100th Anniversay Game*************************":
In Response to Re: Game Thread 13: Yankees at Red Sox -100th Anniversay Game************************* : Posted by J-BAY
