If you read between the lines a bit , Eck is basically saying that Dempster stinks.

    Stabbed by Foulke.

We need to grab the lead before Leland goes to the pen and brings in a lefty.

Any other of our starters getting a five run support and this game would be over.

Eckersley stinks.  Dempster has been a decent 4-5 starter.  Watch and listen to John Farrell.

I'm loving this, but let's save some for Lackey's next start.

The front office overpaying for a player is a different issue than how that player does his job.  Dempster is no ace but that's not his job, he's a 4.70 or so bottom of the rotation pitcher.  Go and look up Eckersley's salary.  How much would make him laughable?

Re: Game Thread 141: Tigers at Red Sox

What a laugher of a game.

Sox taking a series from the Dodgers (on the road) and the Tigers late in the season bodes well for this team in the playoffs.  Even if they didn't have to face Greinke, Kershaw and Verlander (who is not as invincible of late).

Lackey must be wondering why Sox are not scoring like today when he pitches.  I am sure Lackey will play an important role for the Sox in the playoffs.

Trust me, the Sox didnt figure him to be a 4 or 5... im pretty sure they thought he was a 3 at least.... and as far as Eck is concerned who cares what he makes and how is that even remotely relevant....as a pitcher though he is a hof guy... something Dempster will never be.

Mo Rivera gets another b.s. strike call to go his way... 6 = 5 Yanks.  Incredible.  Such favoritism... catcher practically scooped the ball outta the dirt, and was 6 inches outside.  Retire already, and take Slappy with ya!!
