Clay is not looking sharp at all. Not snapping off his pitches. Everything is flat and staying up. Not good.

    Stabbed by Foulke.

over thinking....won't go more than 5. day off, tomorrow, can empty the pen

I might add that Nova is not looking too sharp either. His curve is only fooling the rookies like Bogaerts and  Bradley. Other than that, he looks very hittable. Lucky double play there.

We let them off the hook there. One thing we have not done is to maximize our opportunities. We had a real shot to put this game away, and we did not do it.  We should still be okay here , but this was not too good.  We could have blown this wide open.

Good job by Clay. Didn't seem to have his best stuff , but he shut them down. If not for his wild pick off throw , they would not have scored.  Bodes well for the playoffs.

Bradley Jr. looks like he is not quite ready for prime time. A lot to learn.

Nava is just a good hitter, at least from the left side. This is not a fluke. The guy can hit.

The best thing about this , other than hurting the Yankees wild card hopes , is that Uehara and Tazawa can get some more rest.  Should be able to finish this game off with the lesser guys.

At this point a bad outing for Koji is if he throws more than nine pitches in an inning.

Did it without Vic too. Got the game off, with a day off tomorrow. He needs the rest

up 2 games on L column over super hot A's for home field ad in playoffs.

What the Red Sox have done to the Yankees the last week and a half could well be defned as molestation. Warrants pending.

Re: Game Thread 151: Yankees at Red Sox

Is anyone else very excited (even more so) after seeing more of Xander Bogaerts?  His defense has been better than advertised and better than what I saw earlier this year in Portland.  I know it's an insanely small sample size but he's been handling the SS position (at least in limited time) like a plus defender.

Also at the plate, he looks like he's a seasoned veteran.  He's unmoved by anything they throw at him, he's comfortable taking pitches, will work counts, and can go the other way with ease.

And he's still just 20 years old.
