Yankee groundscrew earning their pay tonight.  Too bad the groundskeeper has no clue what's going on.

I guess these guys are willing to wait all night , just so the Yankees have a chance to come back.  I guess I am paranoid.  But I am not going to hang in any longer.  Let's hope the Sox win,  one  way or another. Good night.

So glad this game had to start at 8:50 thanks to the bogus rain delay and the need for ESPN to start these Sunday night games at 8:05.

    Oh, well.

    Sox won.  Good night.

Yes!  Sox pull out a gritty win late!!!!

Ok....   so I feel a little bad taking an 'unfinished game.'

Still....  Give it up to Buch!  Late start, & he still looked great!  Nice for him to pick up an 'easy' win!!!

    :)

Watching and listening to ESPN was painful!!  I was very close to shutting off the audio and just watching.

Listening to those guys was pure torture.

Iggy homered, Buch looked good...a nice win.

Here's guessing if this wasn't an ESPN prime time game, the game would have never started. Otherwise, Buchholz appears to be the likely ASG Starter, while the NYY are recently playing to their current talent level, as prognosticated during preseason.

Re: Game Thread 58: Red Sox at Yankees

Sunday night's game between the Red Sox and Yankees at Yankee Stadium was delayed three times by weather and ultimately called after 5-1/2 innings. Boston won 3-0 , but judging by this video, players on both teams probably consider themselves winners for getting out of the place in one piece.

During one of the delays erupted a boom of thunder so loud and powerful, it sent players leaping off the bench, jumping into each other's arms and running for better cover in the clubhouse.

A lot of storms throughout the area. At least it is an official game. Problem is that with a long delay , Buchholz will not come back.  He is showing no signs of any physical problems. He still looks like the best pitcher in the league.  It will be up to the pen to get the last 12 outs when they finally resume play.

Is it still an official game even though NY hasnt batted in the 6th? I guess it is because the Sox held the lead after 5. But if they call the game will they revert back to the score in the fifth And eliminate everything that happened in the 6th?

    [/QUOT
I doubt they will call the game, but if they do , I think everything counts since the Sox were leading after five.   Still , the delay represents a break for the  Yankees , who were doing nothing with Clay.

It's official after 5, but Ortiz will lose his HR if the Yanks don't bat in the 6th. Sox have tomorrow off and NYY are home, so they won't call it anytime soon.
Games are official after 4 2/3  not 5 and Ortz homer is in the books to stay
If the home team is leading , the game is official after four and a half. If the visiting team is leading, it has to go five. Since this was an official game, everything stays in the records, including the Ortiz home run.

Yes, I saw that, gale. That was my understanding of the rule, but I stand corrected. I'm sure Ortiz is very relieved

You may glory in a team triumphant......
But you fall in love with a team in defeat
