Will Middlebrooks' rehab assignment will begin tonight with the PawSox. Expected to last four days. He's eligible to come off DL Saturday.

Middlebrooks should take his time.  I think the assignment should be until September.   LOL

No Ellsbury for the 4th game in a row, all against contenders.  Unfair of me, but I think he overdid the basestealing bit against the Phillies.  Having Bradley available is a strongly mitigating factor in all of this.  So far without Ellsbury (not including the earlier day off) the Sox are 2-1.

I kind of feel the same way that Ells was overly eager on baserunning against the Phillies but I can never blame him for stealing 5 bags right after Phillies stole 4 against us.  It was redemption.  But like you said, he was finally getting his rhythm back and went down before very important month.  Sox have maybe the most challenging and important schedule for June.  Hope Ells comes back soon without losing his groove.

Teams Sox are playing in the month of June

NYY (won series), TEX, LAA (Angels suck but I would never underestimate their offense), TB, BAL, TB, DET, COL, TOR

Ellsbury could be back tomorrow, Farrell said. Nothing points to any DL time needed.

Red Sox have plans to work Iglesias out at 2B eventually, but no set schedule for that yet.

Iglesias wouldn't replace Pedroia. But to be the utility guy, he needs to know how to play 2B just in case.

Sure he could be back tomorrow. He could be back in a week too...or a month. Meanwhile, Pedroia is playing with a torn ligament in his thumb.

The Rangers are the best team in the AL and have our number. Last year they won six of eight games against us, including four of five at Fenway. They swept us in May as well, so over the last two years so far we are 2-9 against them. If we can manage to win a couple of games in this series it would be a big boost to the confidence of the players, I am sure, since they know Texas has been better than us for two years in a row now. If on the other hand, we get swept or even just lose the series again to them, it should be pretty clear to everyone that we still cannot compete with the league's elite teams.

I know I heard over the weekend that Ellsbury would be back for the start of the Ranger's series. In Red Sox FO lingo..this probably means a week from now. All the same..I am finally going to see a game pitched by Dempster. For some reason I've missed every one of his starts.

Yeah. Orsillo said he was " under the weather ."  That seems to indicate something minor. But with his history , you have to wonder.

I think he could play second better than Pedroia. That's no knock on Pedroia , who is a legit gold glover.  Iglesias is just that good.

That's what they said when he was out a few years ago, with lung cancer, gale. Remy announced he had a relapse in February, and returned to Boston for treatment.
