Re: Game Thread 61: Rangers at Red Sox

Well here we go! John "Big Game" Lester on the mound. Lets see what he is made of tonight. A successful outing IMO would consist of going seven innings and allowing fewer than four runs. That would equate to an ERA of 3.86. If he surrenders four runs in seven innings his ERA for this game is 5.14. If he goes less than seven innings it is still not a good start IMO. For those of you who do not like in game ERAs, I am using it only as a point of perspective. You know Holland isn't likely to give up a lot of runs; lets see if Lester can outduel him. Or will we lose our 11th game out of 14 in the last two years to the Rangers.

WE ARE ALL JUST POPPYSEEDS IN THE BAKERY OF LIFE

Good game by Lackey last night.  Ortiz picked a great night to go 0 for 3.

The Rangers lead the league in ERA. Good pitching tends to beat good hitting. Thats what happened last night. Lackey did well too, just not good enough. Breslow and Uehara finished the losing effort. To battle great pitching you have to have great pitching yourself. We did not have that last night.

Jonny "Mendoza" Gomes in the lineup tonight? Why? he should be retired.

His last three starts Lester is a mess... so much for getting back to be the ace of the staff... I really think he has developed into quite the head case...

Lester was never an ace. You saw an ace when CC pitched against us. Lester is a mediocre serviceable #3-4 SP-at best. Whenever there is a big game, he coughs up a hairball. He is the major reason I think we are a .500 team. He will regress as the season progresses.

Not sure what youre talking about. Lester from 2008 to 2011 was definitely a 1 or at the very least a 2...look at his stats

What a waste of an inning...first and third and nobody out and nothing to show for it... not watching the game so wondering what happened with Els....did he even have a chance to score?

If he had run hard from the start he would have.  I think he thought they would go for two and not throw home.

Close play. Butterfield always sends the runner on contact.

Then that makes it even worse...now watch the Rangers score this inning...
