Can't even score on a lead off triple , with the two , three and four hitters?  That is how bad things are going.

Well, that's what I thought at first too, but does Crawford have the swagger to fight back that Beckett has? If he has, he's not shown it yet. The postseason will be good gut check time for him.
I think what is best is buy him out. Cut your losses, see if he would be willing to take 50 million as a buyout, and be done with him. It's such an albatross that you just don't want to see this happen again next year or next week, or next game. It's a car wreck and we're the darn lookie-loos.
    Posted by dannycater
Come on danny boy, no business man is gonna cut losses by paying a player $50 mil for nothing, unless we have a young superstar to take his spot and I doubt even then.. Crawford has stunk it up all year with the exception of his 3 or 4 game winning hits.  I honestly believe he will eventually come around, it just may not be until next year. He definitely doesn't look comfortable and may be regretting taking the extra money to come to Boston!

And this is what the playoffs will be like. CJ Wilson (lefty), Harrison (lefty) and either Ogondu or Holland (lefty).

Well at least they are consistant.  3 home games in a row with a total in each of 3 hits.  At least something to build on.

It's called pressing. You saw it in Crawford, Aviles, Gonzo and Youk. Weakly hit balls on the first pitch.

gale the nyy went thru a bad stretch like this when we gained so much ground. it happens, just always seems worse and magnified when its your team. they'll heat up again. if were the wild card were the wild card, so be it. yankees pitching hasnt been great of late, CC, nova got knocked around last night by KC, Burnett

This team hit the dogs days of August out of steam. They don't enough left in the tank to make a charge at anything, maybe a weak limp into wildcard but thats about it.

They need to upgrade a bunch of things. Becket is out of shape, Crawford is awful, a real short stop, outside of Lester the staffs shaky.

You mean 06? In 07 they ALMOST choked around this time, but fought back from the edge. That's all I'm asking here. Julio Lugo--of all people--called that 07 team out when they were playing like this, and then went out and hit a game winning HR at Tampa the next night. That's the kind of thing we need now. But that 07 team was fairly healthy too, not so much right now.

Tell you what.  Sox look like a tired team with a depleted bench. Now , without an off day , we are going to play eight games in the heat and humidity of K.C. and Texas.  If we continue to struggle on that trip , we had better hope that the Rays and/or the Angels do not get hot and run off a winning streak.  If they do , the wild card race will tighten up in a hurry.

And why was he still in there pitching to Zobrist at 120 pitches? The guy was done and he shouldn't have even pitched to Longoria.

Saw that earlier this afternoon. Now see? This is what I'm talking about. No matter how positive you are, you simply cannot win a division like the AL east when people aren't on the field. Last year taught us that.

The point is that the 07 team went into a funk, righted the ship and went on to win the WS...06 was an entirely diffent senerio that team was decimated with injuries and failed to make the post season...

9 hits in some 27 hours, not so bad.

9 hits in 24 innings, not so good.

The most unbelievable statistic is the fact that Beckett has an ERA of 2.40, a WHIP under 1, a team 26 games over .500, opponents batting average against of less than .200, and yet Beckett has only 9 wins.
