First base is open. Don't give him a pitch to hit.

so we pinch run for gonzo, lose his bat, and then aviles his replacement, botches the potential winning run, nice

With two out I completely agree with you. This is where I find Francona to be dangersous in close games he manages.
Let me ask you ??? Are the Yankees lucky or just very good at getting clutch hits !!! They get out hit today 17 to 12 but end up winning !!! And the Orioles got an extra man on base with an error. I think they left 18 LOB !!!
    Posted by mandobello
well, absolutely lucky...today...Yanks asleep at the wheel defensively that last inning letting 3 straight runners advance..if Hardy flares a ball in that spot Yanks go down two and possibly game over...

This umpire is reminding me of that clown Marquez the other night against the Yankees with a 6 inch strike zone.

Perhaps, but he hit both of them off of Jim Johnson, a pretty good reliever.

Don't be afraid to walk this guy and load the bases. Don't let him beat you.

pap needs to stay away, make him chase, but no harm done walking him, a hit wins it anyway

Major League baseball has to computerize the strike zone, because evryone of these guys has a different zone and it is becoming a complete joke.
why take out gonzos bat for a pinch hitter on first base and two outs?
    Posted by soxnewmex
That Francona would take Gonzo out of an extra inning game for a pinch runner, with two (2) outs, with a COLD hitting Youk coming up is typical of Francona's style of managing.  In order to get that pinch runner home, Youk would have to get an extra base hit.  Didn't work.  Now we have our best BA hitter out of the game with the score still tied going into the bottom of the 10th.  Yet another amazing, questionable move by Francona gives credence to the oft phrase that the Sox's win games in spite of Francona and lose because of him.  In a way, I hope the Sox don't even get to the playoffs because that will be the only possible way Francona gets the boot he deserves.  GO SOX!

If only his 2.04 ERA was as good as anvs mouth's 2.80

The NYY can sign Rivera for another three years as far as I'm concerned.

Meanwhile, anvs mouth walks the bases loaded...

Great job by Pap.  Now , here is the question:  If we do ever manage to score , who is going to close?  Morales?  Albers? Wheeler?
