The Red Sox are reluctant to give lucrative long-term contracts to closers, but withJonathan Papelbon they might not be able to resist. Papelbon will want an increase from his $12MM salary, perhaps something closer to Mariano Rivera's $15MM average yearly pay. It's possible that no team will want to go there but Rivera has just one year left on his deal and Rafael Soriano hardly looks like the heir to Mo's throne. Rosenthal wonders aloud if the Yankees would jump in and offer Papelbon a backloaded deal to take over as closer. -

Best looking tempo swing from Crawford all season! It was the smooth delayed release! Much more talent there than Ellsbury. Crawford simply needs to focus on the tempo of his swing.
Tito credit for Aviles as pincher, and numnut 3b coach for holding up Agon at 3rd. -

jbay, i got my ethernet connection for my new tv, and right away it asked for a sofware update, which I allowed it to do. When i opened my netcast, there was an icon there for mlbtv. All i have to do is push one button and today's games all popped up. Can't watch the Sox today b/c of the fox blackout, but I'll be able to use it tommorow. Sweet. 47" in HD--just what I wanted. The tv mess ended up well for me. -

Nah, Fox rules with an iron fist. Can't get any of that to come up. Good news is I can watch it on netcast 90 min. after the game is over. I'll probably watch that 4th inning if nothing else. When I was a kid--teenager even--we lived in SC, and if I wanted to listen to the Reds game I had to go out and sit in the car to hear it. It was the only radio we had that was strong enough to get a signal all the way from Cincy. I'd run in and out and give my dad updates. I spent a lot of hours sitting in the car listening to baseball, and don't regret a second of it. When it got dark, you could come inside and hear the rest of the game. For west coast games I'd lay in bed with a small radio. Yeah, things have changed. I'd have LOVED to have the online options back in those days. -

LOL...yeah, WLW out of Cincy is 50,000 watts, but would still fade in and out. There was usually a spanish station that would fade in the same time WLW faded out, so in the middle of the game, every few minutes you'd have to hear static/salsa type stuff. I got really good at being able to hear mostly static and still know exactly what was happeing in the game! -
