please bring back something REAL to talk about!

In the mean time, what's you prediction for 2014 "given the currentry assumed roster," with JBJ

in CF, XBOX at SS, & WMB at 3rd.  LAY IT DOWN!  NO HEDGING!    Where do the Sox finish?

I'm all in with things as they stand.  Sox finish .............

91 - 71 & pick up the WC or.........   1st, depending on what other teams do.....

We slow play our Aces and hit a 2 on the river for a full boat?

In other words Lester and Buchholtz start strong and Xander gets a key hit at home to win it all and we have another Duck boat parade?

I'm seriously optimistic about the upcoming season.

I think Buch will be healthy, Boggy is everything we expect, and Middy, since he's in love, will turn it around.

My only concern is team health.  With their schedule etc., it's almost an endurance contest.  If, as a team, no one gets seriously hurt, we'll do well.

1st place home-field throughout the playoffs and a world series title, just like last year.  Okay God?

95 win season and that's before they throw one pitch! Now with all the variances that can come up during a season the worst I see for this team is 93 wins. If they sign anyone of significance between now and opening day the numbers may skew upwards.

Oh man...  Football season winding down, then nothing but the winter dpression until pitchers and catchers report.  And football is just a diversion to me to keep the offseason from seeming longer.

Let's see....  92-94 win season.  Clay doesn't have a full year again, or winds down to the end.  JBJ starts slowly enough that some call for his head, but starts to turn it on at the end.  One of the mainstays from last year has something bad happen, but the team gels enough to minimize it.  The rotation is more solid than we expected, even though a few of "certainties" under perform.  Ortiz puts up another good year (I still see him with two more left no question to me).  WMB just doesn't perform, and prompts some serious movement in midseason, with him leaving or being put into a minimal position.  Pedroia plays several notches higher though with his repaired hand, and makes up for it.

There's mine.  I really should save it for when me and my family do our private season predictions, but it's out there now.

There is no need for new ones; the old ones are just fine.

Its too early to predict W-L for me; the roster may still change by ST in which case the prediction has to change along with it. Some posters here call that waffliing, so I will wait until I KNOW how many games they will win to issue my statement.

    Hey, Bill James...

    Make a prediction or don't.

No one cares about whether or not you have enough info.

I think we should do an over/under on what day Pumpsie declares Lester a number 5 starter again.

I agree with you it'll be here soon enough and I as a Septuagenarian need to value each additional day above the turf as a gift. Love your comment about enjoying the other 1/2 of your lives inferring that half is spent enjoying the Sox.

I can't believe, although different sports, that a Sox fan can't enjoy the other Boston teams. The Sox are my favorites, 2nd Celtics, 3rd Patriots & 4th Bruins. It'd be nice for Pats' to win SB & further my opinion that Boston is a fantastic sports town with numerous title winner professional teams. The Celtics, of course, are in  a building mode so I basically watch NBA games to root for any team who plays against the Heat, Lakers & Knicks.

Sox should win a minimum of 90 and possibly 100 games !!!

Weren't you one of those guys who was whining whenever I changed my mind last year? If I make a statement now based on an incomplete roster that would only make you feel entitled to whine again when I change my mind due to changing circumstances. I am going to wait until closer to opening day. And its not really a prediction: when I issue a statement about the W-L record for 2014, its a statement of fact.

    Wink
