The A's are looking to trade him and he is a solid guy in the Pen. The Sox need to seriously consider acquiring him. -

Balfour's Line
12IP, 8K's, 1.50ERA, 4NSV's, 4.00 K/BB, 0.58WHIP.
Definitely explore the options - think they still want Lars? ;P -

Boston isnt going to trade for a pitcher if Hill, Melcanon, Bailey, Cook, etc all soon to be called up. -
Re: Grant Balfour

worth pursuing if the price is right..not sold on Melcanon. -

Baily won't be back until the season is almost through, Melcanon has proved himself completely unreliable, and Hill will be our lefty coming out of the 'pen to face other lefties. With the weak pitching depth of this team ownership would be nuts not to explore options. -

I've had to wonder why Lars has been called up to play in the OF while he has no OF experience.
Could it be they're showing him as trade bait? -

A's are looking for 1B I think. If Lars=Balfour trade can be worked for both sides, then we can use another BP help. But If A's ask more, then no... -

I'd do that deal in a heartbeat if I were the A's. Balfour is 34 and there is no place for Anderson at 1B with Boston for years to come. Could be we may get a prospect as well. -

The question, of course, is how many chances do you give him when he's been THIS HORRIBLE? -

Posted by moonslav59Moon unreliable is the understatement of the year based on any innings you look at. His pitching has been down right putrid and he is in AAA where he belongs. -

Not sure who I heard or read talking about him and the Sox, but you aren't the only one, it seems, to be considering him. -

I know he's a good pitcher and all, but at the same time it makes me cringe to think we're talking about the Sox picking up a pitcher whose name is "Ball-four".
(Sorry. I know it's bad and has probably been overused already, but I couldn't resist. :-) ) -

Posted by seannybboiSorry seanny--Maybe Lars + + for Balfour.Perhaps Lars and Buch.Beane Knows the value of Balfour.I like a move for Lefty Tim Collins from Worcestor with KC for Buch if Balfour didn't go. Collins was suggested in another thread. Having three tough lefty's in the pen would be amazing to go along with the growing number of RH arms. The other option might be a straight up trade Wandy Rodriguez (1.42 ERA) and a little cash for Buch. Slip him into the #3 slot with Bard in 4 and Doubrount in 5. -

If we can get Balfour at a reasonable price, than we should make the trade. I'm not sure that we can count on Bailey based on his past history of injuries. -

Solid arm, always liked him when he was w/ Tampa. Nice guy too, he gave my son a ball at a gm.
