Franklin Morales returned to Boston yesterday to have his lower back examined at Mass General Hospital, manager John Farrell said today. The Red Sox are awaiting the results to determine whether Morales' injury is more than merely inflammation.
"He hasn't really made the improvements that we had hoped for," Farrell said.

Replacing Welker with Amendola is like replacing Johnny Damon with CoCo Crisp.

likely. but it is hard to say what kind of numbers Amendola will put up with Brady throwing him the ball as opposed to Bradford.... I mean, look at Welkers numbers before he hooked up with TB. pretty similar to Amendolas. Although Welker has proved to be much much more durable than DA. i guess we'll find out.

Farrell commenting on Jose Iglesias:
"The way he's swung the bat this spring, I think he's started to figure some things out with his set up at the plate which has translated into a much more free and a much more aggressive approach," Farrell said. "More than anything, because he's a little bit more upright in the set up, he's seeing the ball better."
Iglesias:"I feel a lot stronger. I put a lot of weight in the good way," he said. It was a great offseason to put myself in the best position possible to help this team win ballgames."

Some Patriots fans have taken to villainizing Welker for jumping ship.
Come the offseason, when Ellsbury very likely takes the money and runs, will there be some contingent of Red Sox fans who feel that Ellsbury is a traitor to the cause?

In all fairness to Amendola, he had a broken clavical and a hyper extended elbow. Not like a knee or a hammy.

Farrell: “If you’re looking for a current sixth starter, Alfredo [Aceves] would be the one we would want to stretch out first."

Drew hasn't even resumed normal workouts.
With less than three weeks until Opening Day, the Red Sox may find themselves asking an all-too-familiar question.
Who is going to be the team's starting shortstop?

my guess is that if he receives similiar offers from the RS as the team he bolts to......probably. Can't really blame him for making his money though.

Really liking the pitching lately. Other than a little hiccup by RDLR and Hanrahan being a bit off....everybody has looked pretty solid. I know it's ST but heck....everybody seems to bash players when they start off slow in ST....why can't we say... "Kudos" every now and then?

Of course the Red Sox did get to another World Series with Crisp, so ...
