CLEVELAND — The Red Sox have called up righthanded knuckleballer Steven Wright from Triple A Pawtucket and placed Joel Hanrahan on the 15-day disabled list with a right hamstring strain.

Wright was 1-0 with a 2.70 earned run average in two starts for Pawtucket. The 28-year-old could make his debut against the Indians, the team that traded him to the Red Sox in July.

Wright has not pitched often in relief since adopting the knuckleball. It will be interesting to see how the Red Sox use him. It would likely be in long relief.

Farrell--boldly going where no man has gone before, into the twilight zone.

makes no sense to call wright up, honestly the guy is nothing special and is not a reliever. what would have made sense was to call up webster, let him start and then move aceves back to the pen. having wright in the pen makes no sense.

I think that Wright's only role would be long relief when the starter is knocked out early , and we are trailing. Doubt that he would be trusted in a close game.

It's Farrell's way of nicely putting Aceves back in the pen, or trading him, Aceves that is. His stock is fairly high, now is the time to trade Aceves for a bat. They need a bat.
