    Not possible.

There's no way a player with that many missed games and 0-fers has hit 100 RBIs.

Actually, funny that Bill put this up because when Ortiz was trying to score from second and was tagged out a few games ago, Eck mentioned that david was running funny and implied there was a problem.

Well this is Ortiz's fading to the end of the season that bill has been implying.

In September with six games remaing, Ortiz has:

-- Five home runs, which is a 30-HR pace for per/month production. It's his third-best month (so far) and that's with at least 25 fewer plate appearances from the top two months.

-- 16 RBIs, which is a 96-RBI pace and again, that's with six games left. It's his third-best month (so far) and again, that's with 25 fewer plate appearances from the top two months.

-- He has scored 18 runs (108-run pace), which is THE MOST of any month this year. Gee -- how does he ever manage to score those runs since according to bill, he can't run.

-- He has nine doubles (54-doubles pace), which is THE MOST of any month this year.

-- In his fade to the finish, he has a .592 slugging percentage  and a .977 OPS.   And some of you wonder why bill gets mocked when he posts that Ortiz went 0-for-3.[/QUOTE]

Ortiz is the only .300 hitter in the Sox lineup at the moment.

Losing him wouldn't be a big deal?

What player is going to duplicate his production?

bill-806, you keep leaving out the most important fact.  Opposing managers will almost always walk Ortiz if they can get away with it and especially when the Sox have men on base and first base is open.  We even saw Colorado do it when we had a guy on 1B--IBB for Ortiz.  So an occasional 0 for 3 is irrelevant in the face of that stark reality--everybody else in MLB thinks Ortiz is our most dangerous hitter, including all opposing managers.

For their careers, Pedroia and Ortiz both average 15 GIDP's per 162 games - identical!

Left-handed hitters hit into fewer DP's on everage because it's harder to turn the 4-6-3 than the 6-4-3.

Ortiz's last playoff appearance in 2009 was not pretty. Let's hope his old tank has some gas left.

Its time for you to publicly admit that Ortiz has done an excellent job this year. His numbers are outstanding: 136 games played, .308/.960 with 130 RBIs and 30 HRs. There is nothing more any reasonable individual could expect of him. I expect he will continue to do well in the postseason, based on how he has done during the regular season, with an anticipated adjustment for having to face great pitching every day.
