Easy, easy there gang ........  Im just saying/wondering/asking, is he hurt, tired, or is it the pitching ???  In any event, if a rest is needed, then  J F should give him a rest and get him ready for the playoffs.......  Really, at this stage of the season, does he really need to be hitting against the "tough lefthanders" of the A L EAST ?????   We have other D H types available !!!!!!

Here's a thought, Bill: let JF worry about it.  It's his job and he seems to be doing OK at it.

BILL, how many times are you going to slam your head against a brick wall, before you stop?

One of these days, Papi will decline and/or retire. Why not wait until then to celebrate?

Bill....why not have said that then. A legitimate post could have said....Papi looks tired.....we have the division in hand....we need him healthy and rested for the playoffs....last night against a tough lefty would have been the perfect time to give him a rest.....instead you have to go back to your old harangue about his health......it has gotten kind of ridiculous

Naturally, not being a baseball player my comments are opinions only but being a designated hitter as opposed to players who are on the field, doesn't appear to me to tire someone out. Health wise other than getting hit by a ball or pulling a muscle running, sliding into a base etc., I see little chance of getting hurt. I think it's best not to get rusty and to keep one's hands eyes coordination and keep in the lineup batting especially against the best opposing pitchers.

Bill is crazy, crazy like a fox. The last time he started a thread about Papi slumping/hurting, Ortiz went on the biggest tear of the season almost immediately.

great homer by papi last night.  He still has a lot of power to drive that ball out of the park.  The sox do need to avoid tampa in the division series.  If ortiz goes one for whatever then, we could be in trouble.

    Good point.

Nonsense.  Go back and look at your title, which is completely derisive.  The last thing you are is concerned about Ortiz.  And your paragraph above makes it clear you have lots of other guys you would rather see DH.  No doubt one of them is your fav Lavarnway.  Or maybe Bogaerts.  Anyone, it's clear, but Ortiz.

This is a veteran team in a pennant race, not tryouts in ST.  Oriz is easily the best hitter on the team, to say nothing of the highest paid DH in MLB.  And you want to bench him despite your protestations to the contrary.

Last night's homer was a good one, especially where to me it looked like he was a little late on the swing.  But Bill is fine in pointing out that Ortiz was quiet this series against tampa.  His .980 ops did not help him out too much in getting more than one hit.

The other two homers you talk about came in a thrasing against Detroit after a hitless first two games.  Everyone in that thrasing with the exception of Dustin tore the cover off the ball.

Playoffs are coming and consistency is needed, I think that is all that Bill is pointing out.

Seriously?  are we going to be critical of players for one game or one series? That is just absolutely ridiculous and absurd.  No player gets hits, or HR's or RBI's in every game.  It's not that it's not frustrating to watch a player struggle in one game when we lose....but by that logic we bash any player on any team at any point in history we want too.....that's just stupid.

Consistency isn't defined by a couple games.  Because all players consistently go through a funk, whether it's a month (Mike Napoli) or a week (david Ortiz)

And I'm sure that's "not all Bill was trying to say" because Bill finds any and every excuse he can to bash the guy.

By that Logic I can bash Pedro Martinez 1999 campaign.  Did you know he gave up 9 runs in one game??? then couln't go more than 5 innings for the next 4 games! I mean....he only won the Cy Young that year but who cares right? If I can Cherry pick a few games a guy is obviously garbage.
