    Headed to Boston

    In July my 9 year old son and I will be making our first trip to Boston .....not sure of the exact dates yet (depending what game I can get monster tickets for) any tips on travel, hotels, places to go things to see .... we are able to go for three games on convective days and want to give my son the best redsox experience I can .... He is a huge fan and is receiving this trip for his birthday ..... Any help/tips would be greatly appreciated ...... Also looking for the best place to get first row monster tickets ........ Thanks in advance !!!!!!

    i got on top of the monster twice but did not buy tickets. the first time we got lucky and just walked up there when the escorts weren't paying attention. they mark peoples hands when they check your tickets to get into that section. So the second time i was at fenway last summer we just marked our hands ourselves and flashed them to the guy. From what we heard from the folks we were conversing with while up there tickets for the monster were close to 300 bucks. not sure if he meant standing only or actual seats but it's a hefty price either way. The bleachers are a great place to sit too as long as it doesn't rain and i've also sat on the first base line a few rows behind the dugout (we move around a lot). As long as you don't get stuck behind a support beam all the seats in the house are good.

     

    the first game i went to last summer we got stuck behind a beam (that's what caused us to find new seats and end up on top of the moster). if was funny because the way we were positioned i could not see lester on the mound and my dad who was sitting next to me could not see the batter at the plate. so we were relaying what was going on back and forth, switching seats every inning. that only lasted a couple innings until we went looking for new seats.

    as far as hotels go i have no idea. everytime i travel to Boston i stay with my uncle who lives in Milton. I always make it a point to go visit Faneuil hall and the Quincy market to get some food and do a little shopping. The aquarium is the best i've seen too. the wait can be kind of long but it is well worth it.

    It is very nice of you to take your son on a trip to Boston. 

    Hotels in Boston and Cambridge are very expensive.  My recent trip was in 2010 and I could not find a hotel under $200 per night.  I stayed at the Hyatt in Cambridge which was around $250 per night (I only stayed one night). 

    I recommend taking the Duck Tour.  It drives around downtown Boston and then the bus becomes a boat and sails along the Charles River.  One passenger was wearing a Derek Jeter jersey and I thought about pushing him into the river.   LOL 

    I also recommend Quincy Market.  The food court has a lot of nice dishes to choose from.  A lobster sandwich is $18!!!  Geez.....   LOL

    Parking in downtown Boston is a pain.  Which is why I stayed at the Hyatt because it is only a fifteen minute walk to Fenway.

    As far as Monster seats,those are sold out now.One way to find them is through eBay,but you're going to pay a premium price for them.They're regularly $165.00 each,so you can expect to pay much more than that for those tickets.

    I found I first row monster seats for 444 a piece .... 888 $ for the pair ...spendy but I can't go from Cali to Boston and not sit there for 1 game can I ? It looks like the whole trip is going to  be planned around getting first row monster tickets!!

     I also suggest the tour of Fenway, Yawkey Way, an hour before the game.  Duck tours sell out in the summer, so make a reservation. Quincy market. Boston Childrens Museum 

    Contact the Red Sox administrative office 617.226.6000. Tell them what you posted here.  They're very accomodating, especially when kids are involved.

    If you aren't lucky enough to get the Monsta seats, take the next best seats you can get and then have your young son hold up a big sign that says "will trade my seats for Monsta seats".

    Definitely the Cape!  The beaches of Dennisport are AWESOME!  Warm water...  78 degrees :)  South Beach.  Go carts,  bumper boats,  jet skis, para sail

    Bone up on Revolutionary history with him, & check out all the sites!  :)  GREAT STUFF for a will be 5th grader?  4th grader.

    You gotta hit the Freedom Trail so your son can see the Old North church. Also on the Trail is the USS Constitution & Bunker Hill. If your there for a few days hit Cape Cod for the day or go a little north and hit some places on the coast like Rockport or Newburyport and go to Plum Island. I'm a little partial to hitting Newburyport as I grew up close to there, lol. I hope you guys enjoy your trip, that's a great B-day present.

    Hey Insider,

    Given that Softy repeatedly referred to supporters of what he calls a "150 million dollar debacle"  as sheep, you may consider looking into a nice holding pen or grazing area in the greater Boston area, but I don't think they allow grazing any more in Franklin Park in Dorchester.

    Anyway, enjoy your stay in Boston, and I hope to read about your visit in a future post.  May the Sox sweep that series and may Ellsbury hit two home runs in a game for your son and one for Softllaw.

       Just a heads up here.......   May I suggest that you call DOTTIE at BDC and tell her that BILL-806, the 2012 POSTER OF THE YEAR told you to call....... Dottie will get you some gooood tickets and set up a "meet & greet with players for you and your son..... ENJOY  !!!!!

    If you have extra time, you might want to take your son to the science museum in Cambridge. The Museum of Science (http://www.mos.org/).  They have the IMAX and everthing. I'm pretty sure he will learn and enjoy.  I like the New England aquarium (http://www.neaq.org/index.php) also.  I stay at the Marlowe hotel in Cambridge which is close to the city and you can take cab to the Fenway.  Enjoy!

    I went to Northeastern so I'm familiar with the area.  For hotels, both the Sheraton Boston and the back bay Hilton are nice and a great 15 min walk to Fenway. Both are over 25 floors, so if you request an upper floor, you will likely have awesome views of the city. Maybe even looking over the Charles river into Cambridge or down into Fenway and the citgo sign. For seats, since you already have your monster ones, I recommend getting box or loge box seats for one game and bleacher seats for one, just so you have that experience. you will pay a bit for the box seats, but they are awesome and worth it.  As for other activities, everyone who commented above made great suggestions. Have a great trip.

    i prefer the term "opportunist".

    the first time it was unintentional. Just looking to get into the upperdeck, hit a ramp and just ended up onto the monster.. the second time was because i brought a friend with me who had never been to boston let alone Fenway, so we decided to go onto the monster. Listen, i didn't "steal" anything.. it's not like i took some dudes seat when he went on a beer run and refused to get up when he returned... I was standing, and if a seat is otherwise empty, who cares? if a guy comes back and goes "hey man, your in my seat" i get up. they understand. a lot of people rove around when they go to a ballpark.

    The Isabella Stewart Gardner museum is great but not exciting for many 9-year olds, but a whale watching cruise might float his boat.
