I know this doesn't shorten it, but I'll start with Will Middlebrooks Robinson, which is both a reference to Lost in Space and the hot corner Hall-of-Famer.  

 

i've taken to calling him "THE DREADNAUGHT!" after another poster (maybe Notin??) called him that after he went yard to the LF pole and the RF pole in the same game.

i really like that one..

If he bats fifth, we can call him Middle-of-the-order-brooks.

Mike Lowell lends a glove to tutor Will Middlebrooks

FORT MYERS — Alumni week in Fort Myers continued yesterday with the arrival of former World Series MVP Mike Lowell.

Lowell was in town at the behest of second baseman Dustin Pedroia, who thought Lowell could offer some insights into playing third base to young Red Sox counterpart Will Middlebrooks.

Lowell was happy to oblige.“Pedroia wanted me to visit him,” Lowell said. “That was part one. I think Pedey talked to Will and said we communicated and worked well together turning double plays and said he wouldn’t mind doing some stuff. I don’t think it’s anything he does wrong. I love guys who might want to hear something else because you never know what can trigger something good.

“I remember (former Yankees) Scott Brosius and Luis Sojo and Graig Nettles, they told me things they probably meant in passing but it sticks with you when you’re young.

“I don’t know. We’re not going to reinvent the wheel. We’re just going to talk about stuff and hopefully it helps.”

Lowell, who lives in Miami, sported his familiar No. 25 jersey and expects to be in camp for a couple of days.

Middlebrooks discussed the nuts and bolts of the advice he shared, and noted the two crossed paths before, with Middlebrooks spending spring training with Lowell in 2010.

“Just working on my angles at third,” Middlebrooks said. “You have to play it at like 45-degree angles, and a lot of times I get too flat and you get a lot of in-between hops and you don’t get to as many balls, so I’m just working on my angles and staying down on the ball.”

Lowell isn’t the only former Sox standout to make an appearance in camp. Jim Rice, Pedro Martinez, Jason Varitek, Luis Tiant and Tim Wakefield have also been in town.

For his part, Middlebrooks sees nothing but positives from the pairing with Lowell.

“Oh, it’s huge for me,” he said. “That’s the guy who has won World Series, he’s won Gold Gloves. That’s what I want to do, that’s what I’m here for. Anytime I can get information from a guy with that experience, it can help.”

As long as we don't give him a stupid default nickname like Middie or Brookie or W-Midd or whatever, I'm fine with anything.
