Mariners Could Make Move To Acquire David Price By  Charlie Wilmoth [December 4 at 7:44pm CST]

The Mariners, Dodgers, Angels, Pirates, Rangers, Diamondbacks and Blue Jays all have interest in David Price and believe they could put together a strong enough package to convince the Rays to deal him, Yahoo Sports' Jeff Passan writes. The Mariners would be especially interested in Price if they also acquire Robinson Cano, and they might be willing to include Taijuan Walker to make a deal happen, Passan reports. Earlier today, Mariners GM Jack Zduriencik told the Tacoma News Tribune's Bob Dutton, "[A]lways have felt there would be a time where we have to augment this club. I think we’re at that time" (Twitter link).

Price has two years remaining before free agency, and MLBTR projects he'll make $13.1MM in the arbitration process this winter. The Rays aren't in a position where they must trade him, Passan points out, so they won't be desperate in negotiations. They could target a big-league-ready pitcher to step into Price's place in their rotation, Passan reports, and one would think that Walker, one of baseball's top young starters, would fit the bill. Walker, 21, posted a 2.93 ERA with 10.2 K/9 and 3.6 BB/9 in 141 1/3 innings between Double-A and Triple-A in 2013 before making three starts at the big-league level.

    • Indeed, one such player, Carlos Beltran, is fielding interest from several clubs. He is very unlikely to get more than two years from the Yankees or Red Sox, however, Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com reports. It also appears that, if he wants to build up bidding for his services, Beltran may need to wait until Shin-Soo Choo leaves the market. Heyman reports that the Tigers, Reds, and Rangers are all very interested in Choo but also see Beltran as an option. While the Mariners are also involved and could be willing to spend big to lure the 36-year-old to the Pacific Northwest, Heyman indicates that the Royals are still perhaps the odds-on favorite to land Beltran out of the crowded field of suitors.

Mets To Sign Curtis Granderson By  Steve Adams [December 6 at 10:38am CST]

The Mets have reached an agreement with Curtis Granderson on a four-year deal, according to Joel Sherman of the New York Post (on Twitter). Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports that it's a four-year, $60MM deal (Twitter link). Granderson is represented by agent Matt Brown of Pro Prospects, Inc.

I'd rather have Beltran at the same yearly cost for 2-3 years.

I personally think the sox remaining priorities should be:

    1) OF(I like Beltran or Choo, or a trade for Kemp).  No Davis please.

    2) 1B (Naps is fine for a 2-3 year deal as long as it has hip opt out language

3)SP trade.  Lackey/Dempster/Peavy.  One needs to go.  They are nice to have, but are holding back the kids(Dubront, Workman, De La vRosa, etc).  Do not dump them just to move them, but get something shinny in return.  These guys are 3.8-4.3 ERA, 160-200 innings guys here.  They do not grow on trees out there.

    4) SS/3B An upgrade here would be a nice cherry on top.Boggy is a lock, WMB is not in my eyes

Stephen Drew - SS -  Red Sox

Pete Abraham of the Boston Globe believes that re-signing Stephen Drew remains an possibility for the Red Sox.

Abraham cautions detractors not to underestimate how much the Red Sox like the veteran shortstop. His market has been incredibly quiet this winter, and the World Champions would love to bring him back at a discount to provide defensive stability at shortstop while having an insurance policy in case Will Middlebrooks falters at third base.

Choo will command a deal perhaps a little south of Ellsbury. If #RedSox wanted to spent that much, they''d have given it to Ellsbury

    Pete Abraham ‏@PeteAbe

As for Kemp, he has $128m left on his deal and a left shoulder that limited him to 6 HRs in 263 ABs. Dodgers would have to pick up a lot

Drew is certainly a possibility. Don't underestimate how much #RedSox like him.
