In Jimmy Rollins' MVP season in 2007 he batted .296 with exactly 30 home runs and drove in 94.  He also had an amazing 20 triples and 38 doubles as well as 41 steals so although he missed all the milestones, Ells' season is the most impressive one for a leadoff guy since that year.

Hanley Ramirez in the same year batted over .300, hit 29 home runs and drove in 81.  He also stole 51.

Why is it that Yankee fans love Softlaw? Could it be the fact he he is either a closet Yankee fan or else sounds like one. Babe and Bad-Scene worship him also. One could say that "Birds of the same feather flock together".

Ells has to be the MVP, with all due respect to Granderson and Bautista; they won't give the MVP to Verlander will they?  A Cy Young is enough . . .

    It might not quite be .320, but in 1998, A-Rod put up some silly numbers: .310 BA  42 HR's  124 rbi's  46 SB's  35 2B  5 3B  213 hits   123 runs  .913 OPS But tip my cap to Jacoby - he is having a truly great season.

Yeah, Bonds would easily have made the hall without steroids; that's true for several guys who may not get in because of admitted or suspected use.

It's hard to say but the evidence suggests that Bonds was clean until after 1998 (the year of McGwire and Sosa).

Don't know if Ells can reach those numbers, but he has amazed me all season. He has been so consistent from game 1. He really must have put in a lot of work, both mentally and physically, to elevate his game to these heights. I love watching him play!

One guy has done it....and I wouldnt have thought of him , but Vlad Guerrero in 2002 with Montreal hit .336 with 39 HR , 111 RBI and 40 SB. Interestingly if you just use the Stats Ells, has now, .317, 26 hr , 91 RBI and 36 SB, only 3 other guys have ever done that, so 5 with Guerrero and Ells, See below:

The only player to ever to hit better than or equal to .320 ba, 30HR, 100 RBI and 40SB was Vladimir Guerrero in 2002* http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/g/guerrvl01.shtml

And yet there are Sox fans on this board that still question his talent and ability to play the game.  Not sure what else he can do to convince everyone.  Maybe winning the MVP will help. :)

I spent time at my lunch break and found Guerrero as well.  Nice job to those that solved the mystery.  I was surprised by some of the guys that have come close.  Ellis Burks for example.

Oh and Matt Kemp has a descent shot at joining this club too.

.316 AVG, 33 HR, 109 RBI, 38 SB so for this year.  I think Ellsbury has a better chance simply because he already has the average there.

Jacoby will need 108 RBIs to reach 100 from the leadoff slot. He has 8 from other slots this year. Nice to see his OBP over .380 from the #1 slot!
    Posted by moonslav59

So he actually needs 14 rbi's for 100 to be from the leadoff spot. That is 14 in 14 games...his season pace is 9 every 14 games. ...lot of games against Balt. and  NYY pitching hmmm
