ICHIRO= YANKS' WORLD SERIES RING, sorry fellow sox fans!

just got a single in his first AB and got a steal. this will be another youk situation. you just get new life. it was time. he already leads the yanks in steals. ichiro is full of energy, this will be another linsanity situation. ichiro will go back to the superstar disrupter he was just a few years ago. the man has been an all-star 10 of his 12 mlb seasons, i dont think he has lost core skills. seattle is way too small for him, he will thrive in the lights. the rich got way richer!
Strange. The Mariners must have felt guilty about trading them an injured Pineda, basically gave them Ichiro.
    Posted by Bisson1
Seattle isn't contending this season in the final year of Ichiro's contract, so the Mariners saved a reported $2.25 million by virtually giving away the one-time team icon.

A good move for both teams.

Your Michael Pineda implication is unfounded ... Yankee GM Brian Cashman keeps returning to the Mariners for trades because the M's record for fair-dealing.

Ichiro = Championship? You've got to be kidding. Championship of what? World's ugliest swing? He'll revive for a while, then go back to his .252 self. No way I'd want him on this team.

    Posted by COMMUNIST-CONTRARIAN
not an upgrade over gardner ... an upgrade over jone/ibanez. if the yanks had gardner, there would be no reason for this trade.

Yankees are hitting well lately due of hot weather days especially with their power hitting.  But they have gone cold so many times during the post season due of cold weather.

Yankees's starting pitching isnt too impressive this year.  They just got an excellent run support.  Plus they lack secondary left handed starting pitcher.  When the Yankees won world series in the past 30 years, they usually have two or more lefty in their starting pitching rotation.  Right now it is Sabathia.  Pettitte wont be back until late August.  He may not be in a good shape by the time post season come.

I can see the Yankees being knock out in the first round playoff series!!

The biggest miss statement in all of fandom. NY has been in the post season every year but one in the last 17 years. And if there wasn't a strike in 94, it would be 18 years. Sometimes bats will go cold against excellent pitching. Them's the breaks. But compared to the Sox staff, NY's the greatest thing since slice bread. And Hughes and Nova will continue to improve as the year progresses. Andy uses September as a spring training and should be fresh for October.

Nothing is guaranteed in baseball and anyone predicting a W.S. championship for NY has no clue. But Their chances are as good as anyone's right now.

    CC

That move definitely helps the Yanks, but it doesn't put them in the drivers' seat.  They're dealing with issues like any other team right now, and that move was partly Ichiro's reaction to what's going on in Seattle.  He's a classy player, and this was a case where he let Seattle get something in return for him.  He was gone anyway.

But that move doesn't make the Yankees the WS favorites.

    Posted by soups
hey Soups!..what's up bud...he saw the youth movement forming around him..this is good for both him and the M's...a change of scenery just might do the trick, had a great run in Seattle, these days it's hard to get most players to 10+ seasons in one place..he'll do well...but it's still going to be about the pitching for not just the Yanks but all the teams with WS aspirations..pitching will get you where you need to be..

That's right, let's cancel the rest of the regular season and the postseason and start planning the Yankees parade today! All because, well, they are the Yankees, they are peaking in July, they just acquired yet another declining former All Star years past his prime, they are the Yankees, etc. And should they go one and done against the Tigers or Angels again, just remember, they are still the Yankees. Or should a determined Rangers team come back from a 3-0 ALCS deficit against them, they are still the Yankees. Even if A-Rod let's a World Series clinching ball bounce through his legs and they lose in 7, they are still the Yankees. Come to think of it, the 2011 Red Sox were looking like the team to beat around this time last year too. What happened instead was extremely painful and should serve as a cautionary tale about ANY supposed frontrunner handing out World Series rings in July. Even the Yankees.

Being a little rough on NY, but your last paragraph says it all. There are no championships won until the last day of the World Series.

The Yankees have a fine team this season, but I'm not convinced the team is any better than the clubs that failed to win the American League pennant the past two years.
