    I would. We know what Bedard and Lackey bring to the table. But if Miller is very impressive in his next few starts in September, I wouldn't hesitate to put him in the playoff starting rotation.

        Something that looks good in theory, would be a disaster in execution. Best hope for Miller in post season would be as LH specialist, for I have no expectation that Morales can fill that role.

    Miller would need to be lights out in all of his final starts. If so, yes. If not,no, becuase he shorter on experience.

    I believe in going with the hot hand, so if Miller is lights out going into the playoffs, I'd say yes.  But otherwise, given current effectiveness of all three guys, I'd stick with Bedard as my #3 and Lackey my #4.

    I would. We know what Bedard and Lackey bring to the table. But if Miller is very impressive in his next few starts in September, I wouldn't hesitate to put him in the playoff starting rotation.

    Right now I think the first three playoff slots are Lester, Beckett, and Bedard.  Then probably Lackey.  Then Miller.  Right now, I would not be inclined to have Wakefield on the playoff roster--unlikely to start, not needed to relieve.

     I don't think anyone is inclined to have Wake on the playoff roster.  The final playoff rotation spot should be between Lackey and Miller.  If Miller does finish strong, I would be inclined to give him the spot.  But, if they both continue to be hot and cold in September, I go with Lackey for experience.

      It would solve a lot of prolems if Buchholz is ready to start by the playoffs.If he's ready,he's definitely the #3.I don't think he will be,but he'd be great in relief if he's able to do that.
       If Clay isn't ready to start,I'd probably have Bedard as the third pitcher.Miller would be a great option out of the pen in long relief or as a left hand specialist.

    I like Miller in the BP.  He can act as a lefty specialist that can pitch for 2 or innings. 

    But Miller was impressive the other day.  I am eager to see how he does Friday night against the Angels.

    Hopefully, Lackey can miraculously pitch well in the post season as all of the experts say he can.  He has been able to shave 1-1.5 runs off his regular season era in the post season, but this year his regular season ERA is 5.94.  So even shaving 2 runs off would give him an era of nearly 4.00.  And he has a losing post season record (3-4).

    Bedard has a solid 3.45 era this year, which is the same both with the Red Sox and with the Mariners.

    On the other hand, the Red Sox offense should be able to abuse a #3 or #4 starter.

    I'm hoping Miller continues to pitch well and ousts Lackey from the playoff rotation.  The only way Lackey wins is if we score at least 5 runs in the first 5 innings, and even then, a win is not a sure thing.  If the Sox weren't an offensive juggernaut, Lackey's W-L record would reflect more accurately his ERA.

    To me the question isn't as easy as it appears and I would think that September's results will weigh into the equasion...today I think it's a no brainer...Game #1 Lester Game #2 Beckett Game #3 Bedard Game #4 is  Lackey spot to lose.... the stats below are their last ten starts (Bedards since arriving)...the reality is ERA for todays starters isn't the best measure cause guys don't pitch complete games...so I've done a little math and came up with runs allowed per IP and then multiplied that times innings most starters go 6 and some 7 so I highlighted all of their respective ERA if they went 6 and also the stats that I think is far more relavent the actual runs allowed per IP...

    Terry Francona wll have John Lackey pitching Game 3 in the playoffs....Tito sticks with his guys. Probabky not the right decision but the one he will make.

    Francona doesn't make those decisions in a vacum, he consults with his coaches and his boss Epstien...If the post season started today...Lackey would be #4, if Miller outpitches him the rest of the way...he could find himslef in the pen...the odd man out could be Wake...who could find himself left off the roster...

    If Bedard, Lackey, and Miller are all looking good by season end, I'll probably like Bedard for game 3 and Lackey (if ahead) in game 4.

    my playoff rotation would go

    Beckett/Lester/Bedard...then the better of Miller/Lackey.

    all things considered I'd go with Lackey if they are both pitching at comparable levels for experience reasons.  I really like Bedard in the 3 hole, and I'm very torn between giving Beckett the ball for game one over Lester but he's pitched like an ACE this year and he has done it so many times before in the playoffs.

    If Miller and Lackey can give you a decent performance then that makes Beckett and Lester that much better well rested for a game 5/6

    Yes. Not a doubt in my mind. If the playoffs were today, neither Miller or Wake makes the ALDS roster and Wake doesn't make ALCS or WS if the RS were lucky enough to get there.

    Aceves' ability to bridge a lost start, give them 3 outs or 6 outs or make an emergency start makes Wake a dead roster spot. Miller is more natural coming out of the bullpen an being LH gives the RS more depth (though his control issues are a real concern that is getting lost on this forum by a nice two game stretch).

    I don't think the decision is personal either way though we have plenty of posters that think Tito has a pre-determined position pro or con regarding Wake. It will be all about what Wake brings to post season rosters. Not enough if the season ended with all hand on deck today available IMHO.

    Miller most definitely makes the postseason roster, I disagree. There is zero chance Wake will be on it, even if he threw a perfect game v. Toronto.
