Opposing teams chose to pitch around him because for a large portion of the season Napoli, in the 5 slot, stunk and was certainly an easier out than Ortiz. Then the Sox tried Nava, Middlebrooks and even Carp in that slot with the same results. Would you rather pitch to those guys or to Ortiz?
All the same, Ortiz still had a terrific year even if he falls a tad short of 100 rbis.

You dislike david Ortiz, and you hold convictions against him, that's what it is.

You can dislike people it is a free country.  If you want to dislike his behavior, perhaps how has presented himself on the field etc etc etc be my guest.  But to attack him using his play and pointing out his bad days when they occur is just pure unbridled hate and ignorance. From a complete performance perspective you have absolutely ZERO basis for your argument.  The best hitters fail 70% of the time and guess what even good hittes often have a bit of a harder time against better pitchers; that's why it's called GOOD PITCHING.

So if you are biased against someone it is so insanely easy to look at that player in any given SSS and say "see I told you so"

Yes your eyes tell you that.

But if you used your eyes and your brain together you would come up with different conclusions.

BILL! hate David Ortiz all you want, but don't do it on his performance......that's just stupid with extra layers of stupid topped off with whipped stupid.

    Bill,

Get your eyes checked. I know facts scare you because it takes you out of your little fantasy world, but knowledge is never a bad thing, so I'll pass some on.

Don't really know how you quantify good pitching, but looking at the leaders in ERA is as good of way as any.

So here is how Ortiz is doing against the top 20 pitchers in AL in ERA. (Lackey is in the top 20 so that's way there are only 19 pitchers).

    Sanchez Didn’t face

    Colon 0-3

    Darvish 1-3

    Iwakuma 2-5

    Scherzer 1-5

    Hernandez 3-4

    Sale Didn’t face

    Kuroda 8-14

    Santana 4-6

    Shields 2-6

    Wilson  1-3

    Price 3-12

    Jimenz Didn’t face

    Verlander 2-3

    Quintana 1-3

    Holland 1-6

    Masterson 1-2

    Fister 0-4

    Tillman 0-7

    Totals 30-84 .357

Oh -- he's also 5-for-17 combined against Sabathia and Rivera -- two pitchers who are generally considered good pitchers.
