1. Trade Ellsbury career year (+ 1 or 2 from Lowrie and blocked prospects if Dodgers require it) for Kemp and extend Kemp long term
2. Do not offer FA major league contracts to Senior Citizens Varisuk and Wastefield
3. Offer Papelbon only 2 years and 26 to 31M. If market is more, early offer to Heath Bell one year and 12M or 2 years and 16M.
4. Offer Ortiz 1 year and 13.75M option 2 mutual @8M and team buyout 2.75M. No Market for Ortiz beyond 2 years and about 20M. There is no 3 year market. Ortiz will not go to Yankees for another 3 or 4M over 2 years. Do not offer Ortiz 2 year deal more than 20M.
5. I provided a list of 5 or 6 names to offer early and sign 3 or 4 starting FA pitchers to MLB and minor league play for MLB contract contracts. Do not bid seriously on Oswalt or Wilson. FA market and trade market will not provide quality starting pitching at good annualized value.
(GM is more important than manager because of union autonomy. Most important hire is a manager or coach who is a genius pitching coach and development of young early MLB roster visit pitchers) -

I could live without Bedard....basically that is a fill in the name of a 5th Starter signing that wont cost alot of money and alot of years. -

1) Sign Ellsbury to an extension
2) Rh bat to platoon with in RF with Reddick/Kalish loser (loser goes into a trade package).
3) Do not sign Wake or Tek (first time ever I have not supported bringing these guys back).
4) Obtain solid (an ace not needed) starting pitcher.
5) DH/3B. Offer Papi 18-20mil for 2 years. If he excepts (I think he would), then things stay status quo with him and Youk at 3rd. If he declines, say good bye and put Youk full time at DH and find another 3b (Rameriz?). -

1) Do not sign Papi, Paps, or Tek. Take those 5 picks and run. Lavarnway is BU C and partial DH.
2) Sign a manager who follows the numbers, knows how to use his pitchers, and train his young guys.
3) Sign a solid #3/4 starter from FA (Buerle?), and at least 3-4 5th, 6th+ starters for rotation, pen, and AAA. A few of these can be reclaimation guys.
4) Replace Paps in the pen with 2 guys. 1 can be a closer if Bard is not the answer (yet?)
5) Sign/trade for a RF replacement. This is the spot with the most options. Possible trade fodder: reddick, kalish, lowrie, bowden, dubront, weiland, iglesis(not sold he can hit), lars, tarazwa, etc.
In summary, use the $ from paps, and papi to get younger and more flexible. Trade your fringe guys for 1 more proven, solid guy, use the picks from the guys leaving to help rebuild the farm. Spend where you have to, not because you waqnt to make a splash. -
