Did Ben see this coming? Either way, I loved the trade at the time and I love it even more now.

I feel for the kid, but glad hes Detroits problem now...

He was having some leg issues last year that he had to play through.

With Bogearts waiting in the wings, it was a smart move to unload him.

I am a big Iggy fan, but realized he was never going to be more than a utility IF'er with the Sox.

That being said and in that light, trading a utility IF'er for 1.3 years of Peavy looks like a steal.

Wow. I wish him the best and hope he is back on the field soon...but this does throw a wrench in the idea that the Peavy trade was some giant mistake (as some here argue), especially if the problem dates back to issues last season.

I read an interview where Iggy said he was hurting last year as well.

6 months means out for the year basically.

We can argue with the "Iggy is the best player in the world" crowd next year I suppose.

I think teams are going to wait until June to sign Drew to save the pick. It makes sense.

This shouldn't be a surprise. Iggy had missed significant time in two seasons in the minors, and I think it was for the same issue.

Yeah, I agree...I dont think the Tigers will give up a 1st round pick for him. They will probably go internally until June and re evaluate then.

Maybe the Yanks are still in play, especially if there is an injury.

I think they'd only lose the 56th pick, if they signed Drew.

Just like the way you were with Bailey.

Guys that liked Reddick were thrilled when Bailey got hurt. Remember Bailey was injured so that made it a bad trade for the Red Sox?

Well then if Iggy is injured it is a good trade for the Red Sox.

    It is what it is.

Not really. I seriously doubt anyone here is happy that Iggy got hurt. He would have provided many great moments to watch this year, even from afar.

However, if he was damaged goods (and especially if the Red Sox knew it, which seems likely from Farrell's comments), that should certainly change the evaluation of the trade. Does it not for you?

The question is whether this will be something that becomes a chronic problem that threatens his career or can it be treated and not recur in the future. If the Sox knew he was damaged goods, I would not be proud of making a trade under those circumstances. Certainly would not like it if it was done to us.

This thread isnt to express happiness that Iggy is hurt. Its a big story regarding one of the better defensive SS's and who was in a notable trade last year.

I dont wish any injury upon any player.

Just because we may have known about the injury, does not mean we tricked the Tigers. We may have fully disclosed the issue to them, and they took the risk knowing the problem.

Never an Iggy guy healthy or not. Wish Drew had taken the 14 mil to play with us.  Either Detroit or Yanks will get him now, he's a solid ss and a clutch hitter.  Pray it's not the Yanks.  Ells and Drew were two important pieces in our WS run, and looks like the Yanks may have them both, along with all the other guys they've added, not good.

    Oh brother...

We've gone from "it was a bad trade" to "the Sox took advantage of the poor Tigers and they're evil"?

    Really?

If another team did it to us, you'd be killing the Sox front office, not the other team.

Or they may not have known the extent of the injury. Just that he had some issues with his shins.
