He should be our shortstop. Period.  The Drew signing was a mistake.

It looks as if it could be now, but last year gave no indication that Iggy was going to hit. He looked very over matched last year. He has bulked up a little and looks a lot more comfortable up there. Unfortunately the Sox couldnt look into the future last year and see this happening, so they covered their azz.

And Drew is only on a one year deal. So worst case would be Iggy goes back down to Pawtucket when Drew gets healthy and has a year to build his confidence at the plate. Best case would be they're both playing good and we spin Drew for another power arm for Pawtucket or Portland.

I was just going to post something like this. My best-case scenario right now is that Iglesias keeps up his success at Pawtucket while Drew has a nice first half and gets us some value in a midseason trade.

yea Ok...they are all going to be lining up to sign Drew and his TEN MILLION DOLLAR Salary because he is such a valuable player..

is it possible just to say that the Drew signing, like the Bailey trade, was a huge mistake?

So you're saying a team like the Oakland A's, in the middle of a playoff run, would never trade for a guy like Drew?

History might disagree with you there.

Easy to say that now.  The kid hit .118 last year and couldn't hardly get the ball out of the infield.  I don't blame the Sox for signing Drew.  Even after three games I don't think its a mistake.  Iggy has improved, I agree, but he has not shown (yet) the ability to hit with any power and Drew is not exactly a bad fielder.

Let's see Drew for a while before we proclaim his signing a mistake.  He has enormous talent and is a much better hitter than Iggy.  Drew will be here this year (maybe not all of it if he has trade value) and then Iggy can take over if he shows he can hit major league pitching.

Iglesias has hit very well for a #9 SS hitter, all spring and through 3 games @ NY Yankees.

I ask again, what is Iggy's median average?

That is true but we still have to see Drew with Sox and Iggy for more than 3 games to judge Drew's signing as a mistake.  Iggy is not going to get away with all those bunts once teams get a book on him (which they have by now after he's done it 2-3 times so far).  Lets see if he can bunt on Toronto's turf.  Don't get me wrong, I like Iggy and hope he is a star, but its too early for people to say that signing Drew was a mistake.
