Iggy wouldn't have had to dive for that ball today. He would have run towards the hitter, took the ball directly off the bat in the air, then run back to the second base bag to double off the runner, and then run to the on deck circle and dugout to tag the next three hitters out, so the following inning could be skipped. Bring him up NOW!

My position is unchanged. Aviles is an above average SS hitter, who will do better than Scutaro would have done here in 2012. Iggy is a better fielder with way better range.

One day I'd love to see the combo of Aviles (vs Youk) plus Iggy.

    Hey Space

Tough series so far for the Iggy / Lava brigade!

Shoppach doing well, Salty shows his power (outside and low pitch driven out to center!), and Aviles holding his own.

All the while down on the farm:

Lava is still  hitting under 200 and had a PB yesterday.  I am glad to see him slump away from the Sox spotlight.

Iglesias has 0 XBH and a .592 OPS.

Let him grow without the pressure there is no rush and the early evidence is unequivocal, the Sox have been BETTER with the veterans SO FAR!

each year Aviles has over 400 PA he is a 300+ hitter...He has exhibited great baseball instincts and appears to be a "team first" guy..Iggy was interviewed and said there is no rush for him as he is still learning the game..He is in no hurry, as well he shouldnt be..

Aviles is a plus bat over Scutaro, has similiar range, and a much better wing, what's the problem again?

Re: Is Aviles Still Not A Shortstop (and does he still have no range)?

Tom-UK ...thanks for reminding me, I have been very pleasantly surprised by Shoppach's performance thus far. I'd still like to see Ryan as the main or job-sharing catcher, but we may be able to season him another 1/2 year or more for defensive practice accumulation.

Re: Scutaro/ Aviles/ Iggy....we knew Aviles could hit about as well ( maybe better with full time play ) as Scutaro, and had a healthier arm / shoulder. We didn't know how well his defensive range would be and were prepared for a tradeoff there. So far, so good. And Iglesias is still struggling with the bat, something many of us tried to over-optimistically wish away.
Now it appears we're scrambling for a centerfielder.

A few of us knew what Iggy's offense would likey be, and wanted him anyway.

And another few of us really want Iggy, but don't see the need to rush, given Aviles' competency.

Great play by Aviles on the 1-6-3 DP turn.

    Well put sir.
Especially if Aviles ( Evil Eyes ? ) continues to demonstrate competence with the glove !
