Jeter might be a career .315 hitter but Iglesias is hitting .415 this year so Iglesias is better.

    HAHA!!  Good point....I stand corrected!

A little early to be comparing the two, dontchya think?

Talk to me after another 3000 or so hits and almost 2 decades.

Re: Is Iglesias the next Jeter?

Its just not a really good comparison, even extrapolating Iglesias' hitting success over a long career.  Sure, they both play shortstop.  But that is about the only common thread at this point.

Jeter was a solid shortstop, making up for his serious lack of range with sure hands and canny positioning/awareness.  Iglesias is a different beast altogether.  He is in the Ozzie/Belanger category of great range, atheleticism, magic hands, balletic reflexes.

What separated jeter over his career though was neither his good hitting or his canny defense.  It was his leadership and ability to come up big when the money was on the table.  In these realms, we know absolutely nothing about Iglesias at this point.

first things first...this is SPC being SPC Tongue Out....now, even if his career resume doesn't approach the Captain's, that doesn't mean he will not have been a good player, you could regress as a hitter, but remember there have been quite a few WS winners who have featured a strong glove/ok bat SS...

Are you comparing Jeter's defense to Iggy's? Jeter will have 2,000 more hits than Iggy at the end of their careers but Iggy will have more GG awards than Jeter.

Since Jeter has 5, whether spurious or not, that would be alot; also some are talking 400-ish stuff. As some have suggested, why can't Iglesias just be lauded on his own merits without such a comparison or expectation? One can conclude that while this thread talks SS, the content reminds one more of LF.
