He doesn't have options, but maybe Doubront gets the Hellenic College Flu if he has another bad outing. You can't afford to have your starter go less than 4 innings. He always has a tough time getting through 5 innings.
And Webster's line tonight?

I think they go with him and if he has a couple more bad outings in a row, they might sit him or come up with a fake DL stint. Hes inconsistent, but then again most young LHP are for some reason. I think they will be more patient with him than some here would like.
Personally, I wouldnt mind giving Webster another start or 2.

Always ready discard any player after a bad outing or a slump.

They may bring up RDLR for a few days and send Wilson back down. After throwing three innings tonight Wilson will be shot for a few days. When it's Doubie's turn they may bring up Webster, send out RDLR and move Doubie to the pen. That's my guess.

RDLR is on a strict innings count this year. He hasnt thrown more than 3-4 innings per outing so far. My guess is we wont see him anytime before 2014.
I doubt they are going to give on Doubie this quickly. He had a great game after a rough start last time out. Hes been inconsistent, but Im sure they will give him a few more starts before they take him out of the rotation, if thats what they decide to do. LHP seem to take a bit longer to develop and Doubie is just 25 in his 2nd full year in MLB.

Doubront pitched into the 7th in 2 of his 4 starts prior to tonight and into the 6th in the other two. This is the first time he's given up more than 3 runs in 9 starts dating back to last season. He can be a little "maddening" as he has obviously struggled with his command, but don't think for a second that the Sox are going to "give up" on the guy. He's a 25 year old left hander with with filthy stuff, but limited experience. He's also got the kind of "confidence" that you love to see, but needs to be given a reality check once in a while. Ideally, Webster is that starter who arrives in September/October, and nobody has really seen him pitch much. Have some patience...

Absolutely not. Lester gave up 6 in his last start--dump him too?

Webster will get his chance somehow this year, AND Doubront will get a longer look.

Webster,Ranaudo and Matt Barnes are all future pitchers in the Boston rotation, and you might say the second tier would include RDLR, Britton and Workman! The Sox have pitching and if Doubrant could be spun for say Brian McCann, then you you might see a Webster sooner rather than later.

They will both be important, especially if there's an injury.

doubront has been mediocre all year and tonight he imploded. prior to tonights disaster, doubront has pitched 5 innings per start in his first 2 games, 6.2 per game in his last 2, so the word inconsistent instantly comes to mind. prior to tonights game, his whip was at 1.41 which is brutally high, and looking at his stats from last season (1.45 whip), the struggles from last year have clearly continued. no matter how talented a pitcher is, if he cant throw strikes and manage his pitch count, he will not last long at the major league level. i'm starting think that maybe doubront is best suited for the pen. in his career, he has been much more effective from pitches 1-60, then he drops off once he goes above 60 pitches. i think he would be better suited for a long reliever role. move him to the pen, call up webster and let him start. look, the fact of the matter is, doubront had control issues last year and as a result did not pitch deep into games and he did not post a good numbers. this year, the same trend has continued. he is 25, turning 26 this year, hes not some super young prospect, he needs to harness his control or else the pen is where he will end up. you cant average less than 6 innings per start and expect to last long as a ML starter. plain and simple.

maybe the DODGERS will take him to replace beckett. doubrant was, is, and always will be a mediocre pitcher. actually, calling him mediocre is being too kind.

Some of you guys are a broken record regarding Doubront. Over and over. The guy has one bad start and then the rampaging hoards come out.
It's sad really.

So much for having a bad day. Maybe a short leash but there is no way they are giving up on him. Very young season and sooner or later pitching depth will come into play. Good deal that the RS have some decent options. I don't think I can remember a time when the pitching was so deep.

But suppose Webster has a bad start? Then we'd have to trade him. I suppose we could then promote Barnes, but then, if he had a bad start, then we'd have to start Aceves, and it would beckon the end of the world as we know it.

doubie had a bad game against the best team in mlb (imo) let's call off the posse for a while
plus you know you can never have enough starters - someone is bound to need a few starts off for tightness/pull or whatever....

Even Farrell is concerned. His fastball was mainly at 88-89. That's why he can't put guys away. And who would you rather have starting? A guy who throws 93-95 or a guy who throws 88-89?

Read what Farrell said. He has concerns. His fastball was at 88-89 most of the night.

Before yesterday-
- 3-0
- The RS were 4-0 in 4 starts
- His ERA was 4.24.
He has one bad game, in possibly the best hitting venue in the league, and people want to get rid of him.

Are those the only criteria you use? DLR throws harder than both, so start him.

Webster's big issue is stamina. Too much time at the MLB level will expose this.
Let him rack up some minor league innings. 6IP in AAA is not the same as 6IP in MLB...

When you say "people" do you mean there are more than one ADG? Before the year is over he willl have asked for the designation for assignment of 9/10 the team.
