It's early and the length of a MLB season tends to make what is happening in May less relevant come October.

But right now if the playoffs started today the NYY rotation doesn't match up well against almost any contenders rotation.

It isn't October so it isn't relevant yet but the NYY rotation when matched 1-3 against Boston is not an asset for NY right now as evidenced by our eraly record versus them.

Yes. As Beni pointed out, even in the offseason, in his threads on the subject that were not well received. I hope he is vindicated.

Maybe this helps better justify my argument.  Right now I don't trade Buchholz for Sabathia straight up (and Sabathia gets Buchholz' contract).  Wouldn't do it.  Buchholz is turning into one of the best pitchers in the AL whereas Sabathia looks to be just a slight notch below him up to this point.

Lester lately has shown some concerning tendencies. For instance his last 3 starts have all been shaky at best.  in 17.1 innings he has allowed 24 hits, 14 earned runs and 4 home runs over that period.

Buch and Beckett have both been spectacular of late  and I expect Lester's difficulties to be temporary.  He is far too good to allow things to continue as they have been.

CC and Lester seem to prefer the hotter weather ... I would wait until then to see how each of them pitches.   It is getting pretty hot up here now ....

You have to be nuts not to like the Sox pitching better ... the Yanks have bigger bats, Sox better pitching.  I think the 5 out of 6 wins proves that.

So expect the Yankees to get a pitcher in July through a trade that turns things around.   Hopefully by then Lackey is back and settled in, they need him to be solid.

Look for Clay Buchholz on this 2011 ranking of American League starters:

Buchholz has looked good recently, but the righthander still falls short of CC Sabathia in these rankings for the past 30 days:

To look at it fairly, the WORST Yankee Starter is at a 4.3 era.  Granted CC isn't as stellar (yet) as he normally is, but as an entire group, the Yankees rotation is OK.  You could argue they are very consistent at right about a 4.0 era.

The Sox have Lackey and Daisuke who have been terrible.

Now the Sox have Wake and Aceves whom both have question marks as starters.

Up to this moment, starting pitching of the Sox is not all that much better.  Don't fool yourselves.

Moving forward, yes I'd put my money on the Sox rotation though.

The yankmees still lost 5 of 6 to a team that had the worst record in baseball to start the season.  You should be proud.  Great job, guys!  Recite some more history, I will take what is happening now.   Your yankmees tanked that big division lead they had on the Sox.  Better win against the soft teams, the Sox are waiting to clobber the living snot out of your pitching staff.   Smile

Sleestack has it exactly right. The Sox only have better starters than the Yanks if you ignore trivial details like actual stats and W-L records.  A bigger concern is that the Sox have three pitchers and two non-performing dogs while the Yanks seem to be solid at 4 and 5 with Garcia and Nova. That's a problem for the Sox as is fielding a lineup that simply doesn't stack up to the division's best. Long season, girls. Calm down.

Agreed. I was a big Aceves fan when he was here in NY, but his chronic back issues kept putting him on the shelf. Great as a long man, but broke down quickly when he was used as a spot starter. I've always liked Wakefield as well, but at this point, he's an accident looking for an intersection. But both better than the alternative.

let's face it, after Fatso, the Yanks have very little go to on for the rest of the year. Who the heck knows what they'll get out of AJB, he could be lights out, or he could be terrible. Again, who knows.

Then you have Fatolo and Garcia, both of whom you'd have to be a complete homerific moron to think they can sustain that kind of production for a full season. Talk about playing with house money.

Then there's Nova, who's nothing to brag about. Slightly below average so far in 2011 (93 ERA+) but he's serviceable.
