Is Ivan Nova the best young starter in the league?

7 2/3's 5 hits and 10K's, no walks and he gets better with every start.

    Thoughts?

Ivan Nova is two years older than Michael Pineda and only nine months younger than Felix Hernandez, Seattle's two All Star starters.

You may be right.  After losing 8 of 9 to Boston the odds are strongly in favor of them finally getting a couple of wins.

Btw you must have been a sight to see in 2004 when the Sox came all the way back from being down 3 games to none.  That took 5 days which had to be pure hell for you and your kind.  Lol.  What meant even more to me than the Boston players winning was being able to watch the Yankee fans at the sportsbar totally freak out in the parking lot.  They even beat on their own cars.  Lolol.

He is legit. He has a very good fastball consistently at 94 MPH with three outstanding secondary pitches. Reminds me a ton of El Duque Hernandez from the late 90's. This Nova can flat out pitch. I think in time they will figure out he is better than Hughes. Hughes has a live fastball with NO secondary pitches in his arsenal.
    This kid is fully stocked.

He's three months older than Hellickson, too, who has the same WHIP as Sabathia.  I will say that Nova has been among the brightest of the Yankee prospects this year, though most top Yankee prospects have disappointed thus far this year.

The 1.439 WHIP (before tonight) is a bit concerning, but he is shaping up nicely.

The big Yankee surprises to me are:
    1) Freddy Garcia  10-7  3.22 1.296
    2) Bartolo Colon    8-6   3.3-  1.229
    3) The set-up guys without Soriano:
       Robetson (1.49/1.299)
       L. Ayala   (1.56/1.269)

(Non-pitcher Yankee surprises: Chavez & Grandy)

Yes, the Yankees are extremely happy with him, sending him down when the great Phil Hughes came off the DL.

Is ERA is 4.00.  Not even close to being the best young starter.  Wasn't Phil Hughes at one time the best young starter also?

Nova is a good pitcher who seems to be getting better. He has all the tools to be a very successful starter. No reason to start declaring him this, that or the other.

Playing Chicago without Konerko shouldn't get your head dizzy.  They can't hit as it is.

as far as Nova goes..Hes a good, promising young pitcher. Im not going to say hes the best young pitcher, cause he isnt. But IMO, hes got the makings of a solid starter..

Ivan Nova is not the best young starter in the league.  This thread imitates your constant "Is so and so red sox the best..."  You realize he's mocking you, right?

His Whip is high, and his Baip is kind of low compared to Ba against him.  The point is, he has been kid of lucky.  I think the Yankees see this too.  Look at his ERA against the Red Sox.  He will be an average pitcher at best, not the next King Felix as people have suggested . . . . remember, a 4.00 + ERA today isn't that great anymore, it's kind of average.

Ivan Nova,  Jeremy Hellickson, and Dillon Gee all have 10 wins, the most of any rookie pitchers this year.

Nova is 3.7 IP shy of having enough innings to qualify for the pitching lists, in terms of ERA, , but Michael Pineda, who might have gotten the most notice this year among rookie pitchers, has a 3.53 ERA, not all that far ahead of Nova's 3.81 ERA.

Nova seems at this point to be a very good young pitcher. I don't think that he has shown enough to be considered among the best young starters in the league, at least not yet. Time will tell.
