Whew. I'm ready for spring training. I'm ok with how the big club is shaping up. But what was eating at me was who was going to Gomez' backup at Pawtucket.

I think you bring in LA and let him battle with Gomez for 1 b backup on the MLB Sox.
If he doesn't cut it let him compete with Hamilton in AAA or DFA him.
Keep Nava as the LF platoon with Gomes.
These suggestions would be predicated on obtaining Carp from the M's--Then it's Carp and no Lars or Nava.

I would rather bring Izzy Alcantara back.

Bring him in. Nothing to lose. I still have high hopes for Lars. He could fill a need on this team.

With just a four man bench , I don't think you can afford a strict platoon at first base. A little more versatility is needed from the bench players.

Lars can play 1B / LF. Start Kalish at AAA. Nava is the 4th OF.

What's to lose here? He not even arb eligilble until 2016, he's still young, he had potential and he still might, once ranked at #17 prospect by BA. He can start the year at the Paw playing platoon positions on OF/1B/DH. What's to be negative about bringing back a former player who's earning a league minimum?

On the flip side, how much interest would Lars Anderson have in returning to the Red Sox organization?

If they claim him, which they probably would win the claim, would he have a choice?

A guy like Anderson is not versatile enough to be bring back to Boston at this time.
He is a decent fielder at first base, but has never hit very well and has not played the outfield outside of a few games in Pawtucket.
Inviting him to spring training on a minor league contract is the best I could do with this guy.

I don't get all the snide remards and insults to Lars. What ever did he do to any of us, except try to play the game as best he could and get traded away once Gonzalez was ensconsed (so we thought) at 1B?
I'd try to sing him if I were Ben. He adds depth at a position sorely lacking depth, and he is a LH hitter, which is their precise need at this point in time. Why not give him a shot?

Maybe he'll be the next Brandon Moss.
I didn't hear anyone wishing we got him bacl either.
Then, 21 HRs in less than 300 PAs last year with a .954 OPS playing with the A's.

Good point ... I mistakenly had assumed Lars Anderson had been unconditionally released, but in fact the Diamondbacks merely designated Anderson for assignment.
