The big "O" was Oscar Robertson, the one and only.  And he could care less about the Boston Red Sox.

No, it's not time for a regime change.  This is all on Lackey, and I haven't even run out of patience with him because he's shown this year that sometimes he can be effective.

If they wait much long than mid may this season may be over. This team is a last place team with good ol frantanic leading us. This guy must have written the book on how to lose close games and how to turn a close game into a rout.

Mid May is not that far away, truth to tell.

If they are not above .500 at that point...well, fill in the blank.

They need to ship someone out and bring in somene in who is a better current and long term fit. Henry also needs to read the riot act to his middle mangagement. It has nothing to do with losing two games or not having plenty of time finish the season well, and everything to do with going through the motions with bad fundamentals and a lack of intensity.

This team does make a lot of mistakes -- and not just on the bases. It has far too many bad AB's.  I'm not sure about intensity. It's hard to measure in baseball. And beyond a certain point it's not healthy in a sport that relies upon relaxed concentration.  It's concentration that seems to be lacking -- or mental sharpness.

If anyone truly believes Terry Francona is what's holding this team back, they're too far gone to possibly reach.

lloyd, really? managerial change is exactly what is needed because the talent is there...but the desire and intensity isnt, and that falls on the manager

Geo, I'm not saying Tito's doing his best work. But if the desire and intensity truly isn't there, that's on the players, not on Francona. This isn't high school where the kids need a pep talk.

Whenever a team is underperforming, the easy thing to do is blame the coach/manager. There could be underlying issues none of us know about.

It should be interesting, few managers leave on their own - most get fired at some point.

firing theo and tito wouldn't be the worst thing that could happen.
if the SOX don't make the playoffs this year, those two won't be back.
they've been here long enough, and as another poster stated, their luck has run out.

Lloyd: "I'm not saying Tito's doing his best work."

The problem is that HE IS DOING HIS BEST WORK !
His best work doesn't cut it. His best work is way below average.
They started the season unprepared. He had all spring to come up with a lineup.
We all have seen the lineups he came up with. He actually had lineups in regular season games that didn't have either Agon or Youk batting 3rd.
His supporters come on here saying he should get credit when the TEAM wins as if it's unusual that he didn't mess up a game and should be praised. He is paid to help the team win games.
It's not about clubhouse harmony or any of the other junk he's supposed to be good at.  IT'S ABOUT WINNING.
The question is, can this team overcome his inabilities, like they've had to do for the past 7 plus years, and have a successful season this year?

Re: IS REGIME CHANGE NEEDED.....WHAT SAY YOU???

THE BEST THING THAT COULD HAPPEN TO THIS TEAM IS FOR THE FRONT OFFICE
TO FIRE TERRY FRANCONA AND GET RID OF THE FOLLOWING PLAYERS :
    A. JOHN DREW G. JOHN LACKEY
    B. MIKE CAMERON
    C. JASON VARITEK
    D. TIM WAKEFIELD
    E. MARCO SCUTARO
    F. JARROD SALTALAMACCHIA
OF COURSE, THIS IS PURE FANTASY. BUT THIS TEAM REALLY IS NOT TOO GOOD.
THERE ARE TOO MANY DEAD SPOTS IN THE LINEUP. WE HAVE NO REAL HOME RUN
HITTERS LIKE THE YANKEES DO AND OUR TEAM HAS TO SCRATCH JUST TO SCORE
RUNS. I JUST HATE IT WHEN THAT MOPE , JOHN DREW, STANDS THERE AND TAKES
A THIRD STRIKE WITH THE BAT ON HIS SHOULDER AND WALKS BACK TO THE
BENCH SHOWING THE " I DON'T GIVE A S__-!" ATTITUDE, THIS WHOLE DEMEANOR
IS A REFLECTION ON THE WHOLE TEAM. DFA THIS GUY AND BRING UP REDDICK,
IF ONLY AS A MESSAGE THAT NONCHALANCE AND NON AGGRESSION WILL NOT
CUT IT. WHO CARES IF DREW GOES !! REDDICK CAN CATCH THE BALL....THE ACTION
WILL SEND A MESSAGE. AT LEAST REDDICK WILL SWING AT A PITCH. BESIDES , HE
IS YOUNGER AND HUNGRIER THAN OLD MAN DREW WHO IS ON HIS WAY OUT...WHO
WOULD SIGN HIM ANYWAY. AND WHILE THEY'RE AT IT, THEY CAN BUY CAMERON
A TICKET ON THE SAME TRAIN OUT OF TOWN, WITH A THIRD FOR SCUTARO.

Re: IS REGIME CHANGE NEEDED.....WHAT SAY YOU???

THE TROUBLE WITH THIS TEAM CAN BE SUMMED UP IN THE
PLAY OF JOHN DREW. HE COMES UP TOTHE PLATE, TAKES
A COUPLE OF NON=DESCRIPT SWINGS AND THEN LOOKS AT
STRIKE 3 RIGHT DOWN THE MIDDLE AND AMBLES BACK TO THE
BENCH. HIS WHOLE DEMEANOR RUBS OFF ON THE TEAM. IT
SAYS.." I COULD CARE LESS...I GOT MINE !!" NOT ONLY IS HE
AS BAD AS VARITEK...HE'S WORSE, BECAUSE HE BATS HIGHER
IN THE LINEUP...HE'S A CANCER THAT AFFECTS OTHER MORE
PRODUCTIVE PLAYERS. HE DOESN'T MOVE THEM AROUND AND
HE IS A RALLY KILLER. AS LONG AS WE HAVE GUYS LIKE DREW,
CAMERON, SCUTARO, AND VARITEK BRINGING UP THE REAR,
THIS TEAM IS SLATED FOR 4TH PLACE. EVEN THE RAYS WILL
KICK OUR BEHINDS. THEIR PLAYERS CARE. JOE MADDON WILL
BENCH THEM IF THEY DON'T. AT LEAST MADDON LOOKS
INTERESTED IN THE GAME, WHILE " SIT AND SPIT " FRANCONA
SEEMS TO BE IN A SELF INDUCED TRANCE.

Previous comments like: Inconsistant & underachieving players-lack of
intensity!!!  All correct. This team shows no desire & is totally DEAD! Yeah,
stay with Francona. You know what, when a CEO cant turn a company around
you make a change. That is exectly with the Red Sox need. It's passed him
by. Francona is not suited for this challange. We need a creative, aggressive
and determined leader who will not be afraid to aleanate the players- one
comes to mind is Bobby Valentine, but upper management is afraid of him,too
desisive will not be Epstein's lacky!    LouV

Just saying, the 2009 Yankees were 16-17 in mid-May.  Firing managers in mid-may 4 games out of 1st and hovering around .500 is nothing short of short-sighted lack of nerve.  I am glad that the professionals are handling things.
