I understand the angst for BV. Is there anyone though that Boston media will support before the season begins? Just seems like whoever is selected will be written off as the WRONG person.
Maybe we should list the writers and who they lobby for during the offseason. See how they react to their own choice during season.

Why does it matter what the media thinks of the new manager?

It's not media's job to support the manager.

Wait a second...
the stupid media was in love with Valentine...
and then games started being played.
The media still talks about how "everyone was fooled"....no, not everyone...mostly just the media clowns.

The question is whether or not there is any manager the entire front office will support. What do you think the media feeds off - lack of unification from ops is the first foot in the door.

Tony Masserrotti. Well, one writer would support him, at least...

Veritek; a no brainer. And I don't to hear some one tell me he's had no managerial experience!I can name you 20 successful big league managers who came right off the playing fiel;d and became great managers!

OK, start naming names. 20 successful (defintiion pending) big league managers who stepped in with no managerial experience and became great managers.
I'll give you Ventura. but not Matheny, since he did inherit a World Series Champion, so his contribution is questioned

Go. And notin, I'd say the jury's still out on Ventura. The White Sox had a pretty big September swoon of their own.

The FO should not care what the fans or the media thinks. They should do their due diligence and find who they think is the best fit for this organization for the next 3-4 years.

"The lifeblood of baseball forums is that they are comprised of many who are less informed and less experienced than those they are criticizing, nevertheless it is their opportunity to pretend that the opposite is true. It is their chance to be coach, manager, GM, or owner for the day."
Actually Pike criticism is a respected literary tradition going back centuries. After the sickening PR efforts put on by the team to explain the Valentine firing you should have a little more appreciation for those on this forum who are espousing independent views.
Please don't tell me you are implying that the the ownership and management of this debacle of a team is undeserving of criticism. Especially when you were so incredibly wrong about how things would play out this season the least you could do would be to be a little more open-minded towards those of us who got this right while you were busy spinning illusions. Though I give you credit for at least hanging around unlike your fellow specialist in naivety kimsaysthis....

Why does it matter what you think or the Forum thinks? Aren't we here in an attempt to sort out fact from fiction, truth from speculation, objectivity from personal agendas, and credibility from ratings ploys.
I think you overstate our mission statement.
I am not here to discern anything. I am here to kill time and temporarily quell a baseball addiction...

No.
I agree it works that way for many, but I reserve the largest portion of my criticism for the media, who is actually doing exactly what you say but for a much, much larger audience and without the credibillty-zapping anonymity...

It's laughable that posters will say Varitek should be manager when Varitek himself says he's not ready to be a manager.

+1
however the disparity of how media treats a team in different markets is humungous.
