Big picture...ok pay attention here softy....$30 million committed in 2015.....that's it!.  So the sox will have $159 million per annum to spend by 2015.  When they see a big bat/arm they like that they can augment with the prospects coming up....they will pull the trigger.

Nice, so 300 million plus for two bridge years, to get to 2015.

When 2015 comes, I'll have no more confidence then than I do in the architects of a quarter of billlion dollars spent for zero playoff wins.

And we as fellow members of this site have little to no confidence in you ever posting a positive word no less ever showing much knowledge about the game of baseball. The truce is off "Oh Head Troll".

I think the Phillies have a decent shot at a WC. I also think the Yankees do, too.

Dodgers look good on paper, but the Red Sox look bad on paper. Maybe that's a good thing. I think the Red Sox will content for the last WC spot, with a chance up to the last week of the season.

The Yankees are much worse than the Sox right now. If they have anymore injuries they are headed to below 500.

I think even softy is realizing the bashing of Wake and VTek is getting stale.

Time for some different players to rise to the top of his long Sox hate list.

    In response to moonslav59's comment:

    Why can't softy add?

    Lackey  $15.25

    Dempster $13.25

    Total: $28.5

    If you go by luxury tax numbers, it's $16.5 + 13.25= 29.75.

    If you average in Lackey's minimum wage season: $11.75 + 13.25= $25M

    If you just count Lackey's last 3 years: $10.25 + 13.25= $23.5.

I guess one is close to $30M, but it's funny how you always state a number that is wrong, but that also exxagerate your point. You never are wrong to the "other side".

Thanks for the correction, Moon ... I was being led down the primrose lane by the apparent simplicity and clarity Softy was using.  It threw me off ... dadgummit

Would anyone trade Ellsbury and Shane for the entire Astros team? Of course, the Red Sox would need to send some cash.

have you seen their roster?? our 25th man (Carp) is better than any player on their team..

Carp has no business on the Red Sox. You lose.

and yet he is still better than ANY player on the Astros team... so does that mean the Astros have no business being a professional baseball team?

    Re: Is this possible?

Anyone with an iota of sense thinks that the Dodgers trade last year was incredble for the Red Sox.  Being able to dump the salary they did would have been great by itself but to get back actual prospects in return is an incredible job by the F.O.

THey spent some money in the off-season on middle of the road FA's but with so many holes they had to spend to fill them.  All are short term contracts and provide the Red Sox with flexibility, the exact thing they lacked with Agon, Crawford, and Beckett contracts.

Some people just want to incessently complain about payroll, as evidenced by the fact that these people still think John Lackey's contract is an interesting topic of discussion.

I noticed the Astros are currently embarrassing the Rangers. I guess they are better than Red Sox bum, Carp.

maybe you just overestimate the rangers?
