Is Xander Bogaerts on the Playoff Roster just to Pinch Run?

If he's only on the roster to pinch run, then they should have put somebody else on the roster.

Forget egos John Farrell. Stephen Drew hit .196 against lefties all year, .196. Let Xander bat in the 8th inning situation last night.  Madden would have countered with a righty, but he would have had to make a move and used another relief pitcher.

Who cares about Stephen Drew's ego. He hit .196 against lefties all year. If Xander is only going to pinch run, you could have added Herb Washington.

Drew's ego is very important. Iglesias makes the play that Drew butchered in Game 3.

Iggy's post season stats = no run score, no RBI, batting .111.  Detriot is on the brink to be out of the playoff while Drew's team is on the brink to advance the next round.

Sure he does. He also would have drove in the winnig run. He is superstar. Drew was 2nd among shortstops in rbi's. With a full year Iggy would be first. He is awesome.

Ok, now your just looking for things to complain about. Yes, Bogey is there to PR, maybe PH...Drew has already come up with some big plays and hits this series. Hes your starting SS. They lost. Quit trying to find blame and move on.

Letting Longoria hit IS the reason why we lost. Farrell did not even consider walking him.  There is blame in this game........

He didn't butcher it. Pedroia was clearly at fault. That is not the second baseman's ball. If he does get the ball, he has no play. Pedroia screwed up two plays that inning.

2 for 13 in series. Knocked in 2 runs, but they were up 3-1 on first hit and 4-1 on second? Drew has been excellent. He's been awful (.196) against lefties this year.

Not much. He wasted a bat off the bench and Wil might have even read Ellsbury's bloop hit better and gotten to third.

The available evidence says Bogaerts has been used exactly right so far in the ALDS.  Bogaerts got to pinch run at the right moment and scored the tying run in the 9th inning.  Before that he wasn't needed, not with Drew at SS.

So Pedroia would not have run into Iggy?  Is there some force field that would have allowed the ball to get to Iggy but somehow repelled Pedroia?

Pedey messed the play up, not Drew.

Ignoring SSS, Bogaerts has a 5% greater chance of getting a hit off a lefty than Drew.  Is that really worth the defensive hit?

I am not sure why farrell doesn't have a lot of faith in Boggie.  After all Boggie is a seasoned veteran with lots of regular season experience under his belt.  Farrell should be fired after the season is over for not playing Boggie more.

Hard to blame JF,but with Berry and Bogie on the roster just to run makes little sense. An irony was that Berry was ph for when it would have been David's time at bat. I won't second guess Farrell 'cause Carp has produced, but I would much rather see Papi in the 9th.

Somebody has to be the utility infielder, and it was decided that Bogaerts wouldn't be any less reliable than Brandon Snyder, who may suffer from Sax-Knoblauch Syndrome.

Take a deep breath, hun.....he is on the roster as the UIF not as a secondary pinch runner. Are you saying they shouldn't have a backup infielder on the roster?

Re: Is Xander Bogaerts on the Playoff Roster just to Pinch Run?

One of the reasons Drew only hit .196 against lefties is that he refuses to try to hit the ball to left field. Lefties pitch him on the outside of the plate and Drew insists on trying to pull the ball, most of the time resulting in weak ground balls to the right side. It must be in the genes, cause his brother did the same thing.
