Here is the second most important stat for me (behind wins and losses): team ERA: 3.03, good for second in the AL. If that can continue this team will compete for a playoff spot.

The defense has something to do with thet low ERA.

for sure. everyone has been playing good D. Naps is leaps and bounds better defensively thatn i thought he would be. WMb looks much improved, pedey is pedey, Iggy/Drew has been great, and the OF has been great minus a few hiccups. SV is the only OF'er who has been flawless so far

funny, you were setting dudes fates into stone after half of a half a dozen games worth os stats.

No, I was not. But, while the Board is looking at these stats, anyone noticed the BA and OBP for leadoff hitter role Ellsbury? Also, anyone notice the OPS for Napoli? Look at the BA for Gomes. Take a look at S. Drew's stats. Critical to rush him off the DL.

What is clear is that Oakland has better middle managment, but so does almost every other MLB team.

you forgot to mention wmb's BA and OBP....oh wait, you dont hate him like almost every other sox player.

The team ERA for April 2012 was 5.54. Defense might have had a little to do with it, but not much. Certainly not 2.51 ERPG. Its still early, but the PITCHING is much better. Guess now that Iggy is gone all our defensive metrics will be going down the tubes.

Another factor is that Salty is much improved at handling the staff. His numbers improved greatlt after April 2012, and he's done an outstanding job this year as well.

We have better defense at SS, 3B, RF and LF over April 2012.

It's only 32 PAs, but the .344 OBP by Salty and the 2.71 CERA and .665 OPS against thus far is very encouraging.

The only pitchers who have struggled with Salty are:

    Tazawa .867 (just 15 PAs)/ .714 w Ross.

    Aceves 1.032 (27 PAs)/ .813 w Ross.

    Hanny  1.056 (18), but 1.771 with Ross.

Doubie 1.119 (23), and zero PAs with Ross.

    Re: It's very early, but...

While our ERA and WHIP numbers have been declining, so have our OBPs recently. We started out very well, but here are the leaders after this morning's game:

    OBP

    Nava     .485

    Iggy     .476

    Ciricao .429

    Pedey  .415

    Salty    .371

    Gomes .360

    Vict      .358

    Ellsb    .281

    Drew   .263

    JBJ      .263

    Midds  .245

    Naps   .235

    Ross    .167

Interesting to note that none of our top 3 OBP guys played today.

    Slg

    Nava   .760

    Salty   .567

    Iggy   .550

    Midds  .522

    Ellsb   .455

    Naps    .420

    Ross   .417

    Pedey .356

    Vict     .333

    Gomes .211

    Drew    .188

    JBJ        .129

If I had told you that Salty would be our second best regular player in OBP and best in Slg% after 11 games, you'd probably have asked how many games we were behind.

Now JBJ has made a couple bad defensive plays and Drew is looking sharp.
