Does anyone wonder why California is going bankrupt !!!
It’s not if this economy collapses but when.  Because I’m going to be 75 this year, the good news is I’m probably not going to live long enough to see the disaster.

We are underfunded in almost every state, county and city in the U.S. with few exception like Texas, North Dakota and a couple of others. This infrastructure will implode. You already see it – Riverside, Vallejo, Stockton bankruptcies.  The life blood of reducing unemployment is the opening of many small businesses but Obamacare will prevent many from expanding and making new hires.  People are finding out that their health insurance premiums are going to double or worse. Our Medicare premiums will be higher and we will have trouble finding a doctor.  There will long waits for appointments, treatments denied.  As I said, and I’m not being selfish but just realistic and lucky I’m older, when I find Doctor who won’t accept Medicare, I have the VA medical services, Doctors, Labs, Xrays, MRIs, Audio, Physical Therapy & the  Hospital as a backup.

When you add 20 million people to the system, most of whom will have to be subsidized, our medical system will be overwhelmed.  Obama, I believe,  really  miscaluculated on this and  Democrats like Nancy Pelosi went along.  They don’t have a clue.  And if amnesty gets through and we legalize 12million illegals who can vote, the Democrats will dominate every election and the Republican party is done for at least my remaining lifetime.

Pension  payments to retirees in many parts of the country is sinking the public schools. They spend more $ on paying retirement benefits then they do educating the kids and it’s going to get worse before it turns around.

It unfortunately could be that the federal government will eventually default on its obligations even at today’s low rates. I’m guessing interest rates will not go much higher in a long time because the government will go into debt even faster if it does.  I always wanted to live off my investments and keep the principal secure by earning a decent interest rate.  Alas, I’m dipping  into principal even to pay my Income Taxes, to fund vacation trips, purchase a new car etc.  I may do what Errol Flynn suggested, die with $10 K in your estate having enough to bury yourself & even having your last check bounce(HA!).

Right now they pay very low rates to borrowers but to repay debt at even 3% would triple the debt service to do that.  We can’t service our debt right now at a federal funds rate of 25 basis points.

    Liberalism will be our downfall.

Yes, there is this POV. There is also the concentration of wealth issue, which is historically a far greater concern, and largely a product of "pseudo-conservatism" (as opposed to the real model espoused by Goldwater).

Both POVs appear to be valid.

Agreed; and his FA prospects didn't look promising. So basically he used his coming out for publicity, and to put pressure on someone to give him another contract.

His motivation is suspect, and is certainly on the table when he goes on a media tour on an issue which is a lightening rod for anyone who doesn't "get on board" with those who want public accpetance for their same-sex sexual proclivity. The guy at the propaganda tank at ESPN will be out of the job real soon, I guaratee it. Anyone who doesn't ape the PC dogma of ESPN/ABC or nearly every other major media outlet is going to be fired. Plain and simple.

Admittedly, gay is in. The pendulum has swung too far the other way, like proclaiming everyone has ADHD.

Jason Collins is sexually attracted to men. That is not a moral issue. That is a fact. History has shown that morality is relative and is subject to the whims of various groups with varying amounts of power. These groups often try to impose their moral code on those who don't share it. There is no absolute moral code. That is a fact.

There are still way too many evil, creepy insecure Biblephobes

The only thing to fear about the Bible (which for the most part is a laugh-fest) is its teachings being forced on others by religious zealosts.

It is quite creepy for a professional athlete to wait until impending FA to pronounce his current sexual proclivity,

If his "sexual proclivity" was heterosexual, I doubt his making it known in public would be considered "creepy."

This all boils down to those who don't like christians.  I'm called vile names because I believe marriage is between one man and one woman.

Because progressives control the country and the media you believe you can bully christians,  you feel empowered.  Have at it.  God is my defender, I have nothing to fear.

Progressives control the country because it is a democracy and the movement of people in this particular democracy tends toward progress:  away from bigotry wrapped in the name of God (blasphemy in its most egregious form) and towards tolerance and undertsanding.

Progressives control this country because we have become a welfare country.  So many people are getting so many free handouts. They of course keep voting in the hand that feeds them. We are progressing towards a socialist nation.  As Margaret Thatcher once said socialism lasts as until you run out of other people's money.  Enjoy what you have while you have it.  Socialism never has worked and it never will.

Welp, if you think what we have in this country is anything remotely akin to socialism, its a good thing we dont have a dead red pinko commie like Reagan or Nixon running the show.

We are progessing toward socialism, we are not there yet but we are fast approaching.  We are trillions in debt with no end in sight.  Good luck with that.  Look at greece and spain.  Look at states that have a lot of debt. Not good. This is where progressives are taking us.  If we continue on this road we will all be toast.  There will be a level playing field at last but you won't like it.

     ============================================

Nikita Khrushev Quote September 29, 1959

DO YOU REMEMBER WHEN HE APPEARED AT THE U.N. AND HIT HIS SHOE ON THE PODIUM?

    THIS WAS HIS QUOTE:

"Your children's children will live under Communism. You Americans are so gullible. No, you won't accept Communism outright; but we'll keep feeding you small doses of Socialism until you will finally wake up and find that you already have Communism. We won't have to fight you; We'll So Weaken Your Economy, until you fall like overripe fruit into our hands.

    WE'RE ALMOST THERE!!!

You have hit the nail on the head.  Progressives move slowly, they don't care if it takes years to push forward their social agenda, they are patient.  We are being fed and we are eating these small doses of socialism.

My daughter-in-law was born in a communist country.  All women, including her mother, had to go  to work shortly after giving birth.  They had to either go to work or go to jail, they had no chose.  Why?  Because it was the fair thing to do.  If some women had to work then all women had to work.

They were not allowed to own cars or even cameras for the same reason. It wasn't fair because if one person couldn't own a car then nobody was allowed.

How many time has the word 'fair' been used on this thread.  How many times do we hear it from obama, level playing field, spread the wealth.

What people don't understand is when the government takes over your life to make everything fair they everyone loses their goods and their rights.

As I said to another poster, those progressives who want government to make everything fair will be in the same sorry boat as the rest of us in the end.

Oh good, at least on the issue of lost respect for the high court we can agree.  For different reasons of course.  i lost the last modicum of respect I had for the Court in the 2000 election.

We will not change his mind; he will not change ours. I do believe that common decency and fairness are on our side however.

How can somebody so right be so wrong? ;)  While you're right about most SOFT issues, Obamacare is a manifest cluster- _____________K!

He said my healthcare bills would go down by $2500.00 / year?  They have easily increased by $2500.  If you don't already know that, you must have more money than you can count.  Way to defend the middle class Mr. Prez!

Come on now Pump!  Try another tac!  This is a losing cause!

    [/QUOTE]

RSDD, I have a different perspective, I suspect, than you do about Obamacare. I have worked in the health care field all my professional life and I have seen that as it is currently constructed its not only a failure but a freight train coming straight at us. Sorry to hear that your healthcare bills have gone up that much; they never do go down, do they. Obamacare is an imperfect system, for sure. But its a start. What could NOT happen is that nothing be done and the healthcare system be allowed to continue on its current course. Everyone gets healthcare, one way or another. Its illegal for the ER to refuse service to any individual who happens to walk in. Its also illegal to transfer that patient to another facility. ER care is obscenely inefficient. Since the docs who work there see every kind of patient imaginable they are, unfortunately, not very good at any one specialty except for emergencies. You know who shows up in the ER? People with headaches, sore throats, earaches, leg pain etc etc-things that belong in the office based setting where the care is much more efficient. If you show up in an ER there is a high likelihood of unnecessary labs and XRays being ordered. This is not the case in the office setting. Days and weeks would go by between me ordering labs on my patients, but if they show up in the ER (where the uninsured get their care) you can bet that stuff will get ordered. If everyone had health care there is a better likelihood of people using their personal MD or NP. Money is saved that way. Furthermore, better care is provided. Obamacare is a start IMO, not an end product. It should be a work in progress. Something HAD to be done and after many many years of NOTHING getting passed by an inept Congress I am glad they got the ball rolling.

Our health insurance went through the roof because of obamacare.

I worked in the healthcare system also.  Tell me where all the new doctors and nurses are coming from, what about hospital beds.

Some countries in europe have socialized medicine and it's a mess.  Long waits for doctors visits, sometimes never seeing a doctor, forget about surgery, long waits for that also.

In some countries the eldery are afraid to go to doctors because they are encourage to end their lives.  There is only so much care to go around so they need to make room for the young.

One of the authors of obamacare is already concerned that it won't work.  Obama said he wasn't going to raise taxes yet the supreme court called it a tax.  That's one heck of a tax hike.  This thing is going to be a miserable mess.  Just give it some time.

That's debatable. However, less debatable is he got elected because W-Cheney was wingnut low regulation pseudo-conservative capitalism at its worst, which largely resulted in the 2008 financial meltdown; hence Obama (He was behind in the polls before this). Without him, the DOW would have likely hit 7K a couple of yrs ago; instead, it's now soaring.

Right now they pay very low rates to borrowers but to repay debt at even 3% would triple the debt service to do that.  We can’t service our debt right now at a federal funds rate of 25 basis points.

    Liberalism will be our downfall.

Good post, I have been saying this from the start.  No one really knows what's in the 27 hundred pages of obamacare.  There are many, many unelected czars who will be able to make up the rules as they go along. No one will be able to stop them.  I know eventualy these progressives will be affected, they just don't want to know what's coming.

Our insurance rates have gone throught the roof already, obama said that wouldn't happen.  I, like you, have the bulk of my years behind me.  I'm worried about my kids and grandchildren, what will this country look like when they grow older.

Progressives love to give other people's money away.  Hard working people are being vilified for being sucessful.  Where do progressives think they are going to get money to give to young girls so they can get birth control?

They just don't want to remember that obama said he wants to spread the wealth. That means taking from one to give to another.  Socialism at its best.

That's debatable. However, less debatable is he got elected because W-Cheney was wingnut low regulation capitalism at its worst, which largely resulted in the 2008 financial meltdown; hence Obama. Without him, the DOW would have likely hit 7K; instead, it's now soaring.

We are trillions in debt, record number of people on food stamps, unemployment rate still high. Ask those people if things have gotten better in the last 4 years.

When obama was elected money was pumped into the economy which had nothing to do with him.  That input of money would have helped anyone in the oval office.

Massive tax increase thanks to obama care.  Just wait until that takes full effect.

Jason Collins is sexually attracted to men. That is not a moral issue.

You don't know what he's sexually attracted to. All you know is that he just recently publicly stated about his sexual proclivity. The issue of sexual behavior is absolutely a moral issue.

History has shown that morality is relative and is subject to the whims of various groups with varying amounts of power. These groups often try to impose their moral code on those who don't share it. There is no absolute moral code. That is a fact.

Morality isn't relative to time and/or place and/or whim, or it wouldn't morality. Ethics and vlaues are relative and subject to the whims of various groups with varying amounts of power. These groups often try to impose their values and ethics on those who don't share it.

There absolutely is a moral code. That is a fact. Right or wrong is what morality is, and is eternal truth.

Mankink, historically, likes to use various behavioral norms of the time and call it right. Issues involving sexual proclivity has been a part of mankind's hubris since the begginings of mortal history.

Correct, we come back to the natural law.  Cultures throughout time have know it's wrong to kill, steel etc.  They are a matter of right and wrong, what is morally correct and what isn't

There is also the concentration of wealth issue

The distribution of wealth issue isn't the result of monopoly corporations and robber barrons. It's the result of the rise of collectivism in central government and the ease of joining other Wards of the State, as opposed to getting fleeced by income and entititlement taxes and having to work constantly just to live at a standard of living that is much less than it was when this Nation had the largest middle class in World history.

Disagree; over the last 3 decades, check the Minimum Wage rise, CEO & Senior Mgmt portfolios vs the average worker in a corporation, & Wall Street

We pay about half our income in taxes plus support charitable organizations.  We have family members we also help. I don't mind helping others, what I do mind is the government taking my money and wasting it.

That's been going on for centuries.

This country takes my money and is in trillions of dollars of debt.  That hasn't been going on for centuries. Progressives love to spend other peoples money.  Again, they want to level the playing field.  Obama has added an obscene amount of money to our debt.  Greece here we come.

    I'm tired, good night.

WOW... I really don't intend to start another politcal topic on a sports forum especially when our 3 Boston major teams won  but Pumpsie lives in California as I do and I wonder his comment on my comments that follow.

A debt thanks to W, who inherited a surplus; chicken or egg. And yes, obama care is an imperfect policy; it is a first step that appeared had to be done; there shall be tweaks, possibly an overhaul, or even a retraction going forward, alternative policy notwithstanding. Of course, this is just my opinion; just like others have theirs.

You are severly mistaken; go check the #s, and start with that sham of a War in Iraq. Also, in Obama's case, while he's far from perfect, he had to stimulate the economy or else.

Minimum wage is a bane to the middle of the class, and it is the artifice of the body politic and has nothing to do with the issue of the highest standard of living for the most people.

Because it evokes an emotional response from so many people, economic class identity politics of "rich v. poor" is a superficial narrative that is used to sell collectivism and the false promise of a better standard of living for "the poor". The issue of today is that it's much easier to become an entitlment receiving Ward of the State than it is to realize a middle economic class that owns private property and enough private wealth to enjoy the middle economic class standard of living that Americans once enjoyed before the rise of the welfare State in the mid 60's.

Nonsense; it directly affects the bottom line.
