Re: John Henry "perplexed" by Red Sox discontent

Jeff Passon (sp)was on WEEI this morning. Said ownership was shocked at the level of discontent. Also said the players went to and asked Adrian Gonzalez, knowing he shared some of their views, to go to ownership as the team spokesman, knowing he wasnt known was a b*tch and moaner and ownership would listen to him. He thought about it and decided to take a leadership role.

if any of this is true about the players trying to get the manager fired then is shows how insecure they are, they have s u c k e d since last september and they keep looking elsewhere for the problem, guess what players....look in the mirror it's you not the manger. GROW UP, SHUT UP AND PLAY BETTER

Very telling indeed; the one time AGon finally decides to  act like a leader, he chooses this as his cause.

    Very telling.

Did you look at the poll resylts in the Olney article? Very telling. Only 8 percent blame BV and 60 percent blame the players.

This collection of players is failures and malcontents.

I don't think any of them should be "safe" in the off season.

Any predictions on the Red Sox record over the final 45 games of the season?

The Sox could rally amid the adversity or simply play out the string.

John Henry is perplexed? I think a more appropriate word would be clueless. He obviously doesn't have a handle on the day to day workings of the organization.
For so many to be so unhappy and the owner to be unaware that it is so wide spread points to, to say the least, a serious dis-connect. There are no apparent leaders among the ownership group. Someone needs to step forward and take definitive charge. If not Mr. Henry then who? What will it take to wake this guy up to the fact that he is the one that is ultimately responsible for this mess? To say that what is wrong is the fault of the players is simplistic and reactionary. Their discontent is just a symptom of a far greater organizational malaise.

If you followed baseball, we saw what type of leader he was when he was with the Padres in 2010 and they collapsed. He's not an on field leader or in the clubhouse. He just cares about his $$$$.

The owner is perplexed, yet: he won't let Bobby be Bobby; he keeps some of Francona's coaching staff; he lets Ben make decisions on who starts (Bard); lets the training/medical staff determine who can play and when.

This reminds of so much of Moneyball, it's not even funny.

How are they going to rally when Beckett and Lester make up 2/5ths of the rotation?
How are they going to rally when a Twin reject (Valencia) is the starting 3rd baseman?
How are they going to rally when roster spots are taken up by players (Melancon, Punto) have no right being on a MLB roster?
Teams win with 1-25 players. If you are dealing with a 22 man roster, you will fail

Agon is going to hit and he is going to play a good 1B but he has never struck me as a guy who is a "leader".  He just doesn't seem to have a ton of fire in his belly, I know that is a hard thing to gauge from afar but that is how he carries himself.  Like he is going to do his best but at the end of the day, win or lose, he is roughly the same.
