"I see that the Yankees have put Garcia on the DL."

That's fine because they do not need him and he would not, barring injuries to other starters, have been on the 25 player postseason roster.  Even if they do not throw another pitch 2011, the Yankee GM got much more out of Garcia and Colon than the Sox GM got out of Smoltz and Penny for less than 20% of the money.  Had either or both failed as they were predicted to do by most of the so called pundits, the Yankees had other guys in reserve.  The fact that they both have done well is both fortunate and a bonus.

In Response to Re: Ken Rosenthal says the Yankees are the team to beat.:
The Yankees don't scare me anymore. Their starting pitching won't hold up in the playoffs. Their No. 2-4 starters are unreliable, and some of their hitters are finally showing their age (Posada, Jeter). They're still a tough team to beat, and any club will need to play at its best to defeat them, but I think they'd fall to the Tigers or Rangers in the first round. Verlander seems possessed and the Rangers are built much like the Yankees, only younger and deeper. The Red Sox have a decent chance against both teams simply because of the 1-2 combination of Beckett and Lester being superior to the 1-2 of any of the other AL playoff contenders. The 8th-9th inning combo of Bard and Papelbon places the Red Sox in an excellent position as well. Frontline pitching at the front end and back end tend to determine the outcome of most post-season series. The Red Sox and Yankees are both lucky that the Angels seem to be falling out of the race in the West. A 1-2-3 of Weaver, Haren and Santana would be formidable.

    Not necessarily.

The Angels "big three" have an era of 5+ in the hitting venues of Toronto/Boston/NY/TX.

They take advantage of pitching in CA...against weaker line-ups.

If NY faces the Tigers in the first round, their LH hitters may match-up well vs. Verlander. And it's not a given that the Whitesox won't snag that division.

Hey dreamers, Burnett just coughed up 7 ERs in less than 2 innings.  Yup.  Ken does it again, he is the man.

Please go out, get a 2nd mortgage on your house, and dump it all on the Yankees to win the ALCS.   Just do it.  Awesome team.

What a joke!! By the time the Red Sox get healthy, there is no way that the Yankees can match up against the Sox.

Know that Burkett just got bombed tonite!! Who the heck will be the #2 pitcher for the Yankees in the post season!!!  I do pray that the Sox and Yankees do meet in the ALCS!!  It is going to be an easy sweep for the Sox!!

    Go Sox

That's fine.  Now I know who to focus on.  The Sox should work on finding a way to beat that team.

You won't see Burnett in the post season, if the Sox and the Yanks end up tied in the loss column tonight after weeks w/o ARod I'm fine with that.

In 2004 Rosenthal swore there was not a chance on God's green earth that the Sox could complete their historic comeback in the playoffs by beating the Yankees in games 6 and 7 at Yankee Stadium.  Lol.

Love it when trolls play the injury card. I'm looking forward to the Yankees losing in the postseason, just a matter of when. I'm thinking the Rangers may do the honors again this year.

    This just in:

The organization that plays in the largest media market in the history of the universe, has 20% more payroll the next highest team and more than double the payroll of the average team is the favorites to make it to the World Series.

In other news, scientists today discovered that the earth is actually round.

Re: Ken Rosenthal says the Yankees are the team to beat.

The Yankees are certainly the worthy adversary and have shown great resilience this year.  Their pitching has been mildly miraculous and their hitting pretty darn consistent even without ARod--just lead off with Gardner, then Jeter in the 2 slot and Granderson, only leading the AL in runs and rbi's, in the 3 slot followed by Teixeira and Cano.  Not great fielding, but good enough.  Good bullpen.  Rosenthal is just stating the obvious.

That said, the Sox are just .5 behind them, so our guys have to be doing something right.  Of course, if it weren't for Francona, the Sox would have over 100 wins by now--just ask georom, bosox1941, et al.

Right now is tough time, just like that NL road trip from heck.  Need a win today and 2 in Texas.  We will see.

Completely disagree with blaming the Yankees for spending a lot for players.  That is just good management.  The Sox do the same thing.  Both teams show a profit.

In Response to Re: Ken Rosenthal says the Yankees are the team to beat. : We weren't exactly wrong - Colon, Nova & Burnett all have ERA's over 4 since the break and over 5 in August.  Garcia's on the DL, and neither he nor Colon were trusted to go more than 5 innings against the Sox.  Phil Hughes has been the bright spot in recent weeks, which I would wager even optimistic Yankee fans would not have predicted a month ago.
