I really believe Lackey has to go. Whatever it takes, he just has to be removed from this team. Lackey was known for having a bit of an attitude - I remember when he was with the Angels, he'd lose and afterwards see nothing wrong with his performance, instead blaming it on the dimensions of the field or his CF not being able to make a highlight catch. Same deal in Boston - showing up Francona, glaring at fielders he blames for the hit...after the game, he's defiant and thinks everyone else is the problem.
Suddenly now Beckett and Lester have the same attitude. Beckett had a bit of jerk in him at the best of times but it seems like Lackey really rubbed off on him. It's not surprising to hear that Bobby V encouraged Buchholz not to follow their lead. And he's the only pitcher having a good year. No surprise there. -

Lucchino should be the first one to go. He blew up the season before it even started by hiring BV, and he didn't have the baseballs to get rid of Beckett when he had the chance. And don't think for a minute that he's not making the baseball decisions. -

Just on merit Bobby V. needs to go. Besides the win-loss numbers he took a bad situation and made it worse. He took last Septembers problems and stretched them out over a year.Forget the injuries, they happen in every sport. Look at the basics. We played really bad basic baseball. Too many missed opportunities to score becasue of poorly managed base running and hitting. Too many runs allowed because of poorly managed pitching.Really bad managed team. -

In Response to Re: Ken Rosenthal:BoSox's woes deeper than doomed Bobby V:The FO hoped changing managers was the quick fix. In fairness to Valentine, he never really had a chance. Unless or until they change the culture of the clubhouse, no one will.

I agree, Bobby had very little chance of surviving this mess. Keeping Francona would have solved a few griping issues and given us a better chance this season but he had his chance to take control and didn't.
Theo needed to go and will never help the Cubbies cause. -

The Sox are losing for one main reason. They are just not all that good. They are a mediocre team. They are a mediocre team because they have many mediocre players. They may have their moments , but in the end , they are what they are. To make it worse , the handful of players who are better than mediocre, have been playing mostly mediocre baseball this year. One can analyze all one wants , but the Sox are what the scoreboard says they are. A whole lot of things need to change. -

Posted by dgalehouseHere's my problem. We were the best team in BB last August 31, though we were probably over-performing. What has changed between then and now that has made us mediocre? -

Pitching, how we handled Francona and injuries Joe. There are way too many obsticles for this team to succeed at the moment. -

Right. We most likely were over-performing. For a stretch , quite a few guys were all playing their best baseball at the same time. And , a number of things have changed. Beckett and Lester have not pitched well. Papelbon left. Bard fell apart. Injuries happened. The younger prospects were either not ready , or were thought to not be ready. There was a lack of depth. The bad contracts prevented them from making needed moves. They brought in a number of run of the mill veteran players , who played accordingly. Meanwhile , the competition continued to improve. The result is what we are seeing now. We not only cannot compete with the Yankees, but we are often being outplayed by teams that we always considered inferior. -

Tito had the RS with the best record in BB at the time, and that was with Buchholz and Dice out, and Lackey playing like he should've been placed on the DL earlier, and Youk and Drew out.And Tito still had them on pace for 100 wins. -

But it did not happen. The collapse began with Tito at the helm. And Beckett , Lester and Lackey were at the heart of it.
