Youk wasn't always the best sport but he will always be one of our own in my book as well, a true dirtdog.  The Sox may regret not signing him this season to play 1B, hopefully Nap's defense is masked by a good year offensively.  I would have personally taken a chance on Youks solid defense and the short term contract at 1B.  I like Nap but he was best suited sharing time with Salty and insurance if Papi goes on the DL. 

Now we have another "health risk" with less talent but possibly more pop?  I'm one Sox fan who can't wait to see the next young crop from the farm fill a few of these positions, or get packaged for more long term solutions.

Babe, while I understood why fans, other than Red Sox, didn't like him, I think you'll come to realize he's a good guy.  Friend of mine works at the Casino in CT, where Youk does his annual youk for kids charity benefit. Said he never meet anyone who had  dealings with him over the years, say anything but positive things about him. Then, met him himself and agreed.

 

Even in pinstripes, Youk will always be a Red Sox to me, also, even if I can't root him. He was home grown, one of our own and  gave it all he had, wearing the Red sox uniform.

I won't be able to cheer for Youk as long as he's wearing pinstripes, but I have no hard feelings against the guy.  I would have taken him back as our 1B this year.

I miss youk it will be hard seeing him play for the enemy I will not cheer or jeer

I think we missed a risk that should have been taken on Youk.  A decent/mentor for Middy/backup at 3B, better D at 1B and insurance if Papi goes on the DL.  If Youk stays healthy and in the lineup every day I also think he can regain the OBP we have sorely missed the last couple of years.

I always liked Youk's tough,gritty play.He never gave anything less than 100% and as a fan,I don't think we could ask for more than that.

   I'll be rooting for Youk as an individual,but boo the Yankees uniform he's wearing.It won't matter though.When he's introduced at Fenway, it'll be tough to tell if it's "Booooo" or "Yooooouk"

I was always hoping the Sox would sign Youk and get out of the Napoli deal after the avascular necrosis diagnosis held up the negotiations (not that we knew it was AVN).  Youk has changed his batting stance.  I will be interested to watch the new Youk.  I won't be suprised if he ends up having a good run in NY.

I also really respect that Youk refused to take his digs at Valentine or the Sox...unlike the ungrateful AGon and disappointing Crawford.

He always struck me as irascible, but in a good way. This quote shows he's more honest than most (see Damon), regardless of who his new team is. How could he forget those memories? Despite those roots, and the fact that it appears he's not the player he used to be, he had no problem killing his ex team last yr.

Youk can never be questioned about his effort or dedication to the game. He's a better fit on his one year contract and price for the Yankees. Was a shame that his last years with the Red Sox had other veterans providing terrible leadership.

No doubt, if it doesn't hurt you to see Youk in a Yankee uniform, you were NEVER a true Red Sox fan.  This guy gave Boston so much!!!!!  Can anybody really blame Youk in retrospect for getting in Manny's face?  For not seeing eye to eye with VALENTINE????  Please!  He should have moved to first, as his body was never built for 3rd.

I disagree and now see how he is not a great clubhouse guy.

 

Regardless of how he truly feels, it was his first day in Pinstripes.

He should have said how happy he was to put on a Yankee uniform and to be in a position to help a contending team win, and left it at that.

I can understand how bosox fans likie what he said, but exactly how does it benefit him in his current environment? It doesn't.

Maybe he really is part of the cancer that has affected the sawx clubhouse in recent years.

How does anything he said in the interview, equate to being a part of a clubhouse cancer or not a great guy, clubhouse or ortherwise. First day in pinstripes, why not give him a chance?
